UF Honors decisions came out last week, so I was wondering if any freshmen/upperclassmen could give their opinion on if living in Hume actually benefits students? Would you be able to meet a lot of people there or are the people who room in Hume more of the intellectual (nerdy) type?
And are any incoming freshmen rooming there for sure?

Here is a couple other threads where people discuss Hume:

My son has been in Hume and loves it. He stayed for a second year (next year is off campus). I’m a bit taken aback by the meet people OR intellectual-type comment! They aren’t mutually exclusive you know. But I know what you meant. Lots of engineering/premed students in Hume who do study a lot that is true but that doesn’t mean they sit in their rooms and hibernate. Meeting people anywhere or any dorm means opening your door and inviting people in–no matter where you are that’s up to you.
A tip: making chocolate chip cookies in the lounge area is a good way to make friends!
Thought I’d mention the pool across the street also–and the bus stops right out front. and the beginning of the year parties to meet everyone.

I lived in Hume and loved it but will say that I think it’s a little bit pricey. Not sure if that’s a concern for you at all, but if it is, I’d weigh how much sharing a shower with three other people v. sharing a shower with your floor means to you.

My roommate was randomly assigned and she and I were both very “social”–we liked to go out, party, had parties in our room, left our door open all the time, etc. There are always going to be plenty of students not like that in Hume, but if you leave your door open the first few weeks and cook in the kitchen, you’ll find tons of people on your floor who are also driven by social interaction and will just pop in to say hi. My roommate and I ended up living together for four years and are still extremely close with two people we met in Hume because they stopped in when they saw our door was open.

@2013cheer Thanks! Those helped a lot :)

@gouf78 Sorry didn’t mean to offend with the whole intellectual type thing! I know Honors kids won’t be exclusive, I was just interested in the overall personality of the dorm. But thanks for the tip!

@toydiamondring I think I will end up staying in Hume, thanks for the advice!

From your experience, do you think balancing Honors and Greek life will be okay, or too difficult?
