Can anybody provide information for the Lakeside, Murphree, Tolbert, and Jennings areas? I am planning on attending the University of Florida in the fall and am having trouble deciding where to stay. I would prefer my own room and non-communal bathrooms but I would be open to communal bathrooms as long as they are nice and possible newly renovated. Also, is the bus system efficient if I chose to stay at Lakeside?

Have you checked out UF’s housing website? They provide floor plans and pricing (and in some cases, videos).

I have seen the UF housing website but I was hoping to get a more realistic representation of the dorms and bathrooms since the ones on the website are models.

Lakeside, Murphree, Tolbert, and Jennings
If you don’t want a communal bathroom, Lakeside would be your only choice out of the four you listed.
Lakeside is the newest of those, but a lot further from classes. You would have to ride the bus or bike to class every day.
There are a few rooms in Murphree area that don’t follow the traditional communal style, but they might have been taken already by returning students.
I don’t think there have been any renovations in Murphree, Tolbert, or Jennings so the communal bathrooms wouldn’t be newer. Honestly, they can get pretty gross, so if you are worried about that now I would avoid it.
The halls that have been renovated are part of Broward Hall, and all of Simpson Hall. Lakeside is just newer overall too.
If you care a lot about having your own room, avoiding communal bathrooms, and somewhere newer, I would go with Lakeside. I went into the year with low expectations, and was still disappointed with the dorms. I liked the dorm I was in because I appreciated that it was still better than a lot of other dorms, but it is not somewhere I would stay again.

I live in Tolbert at the moment. When I was signing up for housing I wanted my own bathroom and own room and had a fear of communal bathrooms. Fortunately, Beaty was taken and I knew that Lakeside was too far for my liking. So I kinda just winged Tolbert and I don’t really have any complaints about it. Communal bathrooms aren’t as bad as I depicted and having roommates is fun at times. I mean, its not all peaches and sunshine, buts it’s cozy. I like the location of Tolbert the best. Its right next to the dining hall and a 5 minute walk to Carleton. I don’t utilize the buses that much because biking is really convenient. There are bike racks almost everywhere and I also get exercise too. This is just my two cents on the matter. If you have any more questions just ask.
