UF Housing contract deadline

Hi all,

DS19 has received his Fall 2019 UF housing contract application after paying the $25 “place in line” deposit. The contract must be accepted before Mar. 19 and accompanied by a $225 payment. Should my son accept it but ultimately decide to go elsewhere between then and May 1, only $100 will be refunded.Question: what will happen if the contract is not accepted by the deadline but chooses to attend before May 1? Will he simply go to the end of the line? Will he have to pay another $25 for a new placeholder or he will not be guaranteed on-campus accommodation at all?

Thanks.

Don’t know but I would send in the contract and $225 just in case. It stinks they keep most of it if your son decides to go elsewhere. That happened to us. We viewed it as an annoying insurance policy just in case he were to go to UF. Only school he applied to that requested that. I get the need for the deposit (limited facilities). Only returning $100 is obnoxious.

$125 is not small but worth the peace of mind… May 1 will come like a freight train.

It could be worse, I saw where the housing deposit at NYU is $1000…
