@Luska19 my son is honors but no 2000 because he didn’t get the undergraduate research invite. The 2000 was linked to that I was told.
@luska19 - were you offered the research invite? Not all honors students were.
If I got the admissions honors scholarship for $2000, is there any chance of getting another merit scholarship?
The site says 300 merit scholarships awarded. Stingy? No, just limited. UF can afford to be selective as almost every Florida resident will get a BF scholarship That’s the way Florida has chosen to fund its colleges.
@twoinanddone you assume I was being super negative…I’m a UF alumni…but 300 out of 12,000 accepted is very limited… Several years ago they gave many many more. They can be selective, I know but I’m sad they don’t give more merit.
@twoinanddone Where do you see the 300 number? Just curious. And does that include the $2k Honors offers?
My son received the honors scholarship also. If the student received an honors scholarship does that mean they won’t receive one of the larger scholarship?
My son received an email with instructions to check his portal. He received a Gator Nation Scholarship for $20,000/yr which puts him at the equivalent of in-state tuition. He was not awarded Honors and he is not a NMF. He is a kid who is very well-rounded and has very high stats. Needless to say, he is super excited and this scholarship may be just the thing to make UF #1 for him.
@alliern congrats!
@ufalumn1997 How many were offered in years past?
We all wish they would give more $, but basically every in state student gets full Bright Futures at UF, certainly those who think that they should get ‘Merit’ scholarships… So, the remaining cost is Room and Board, ~$10k.
The other Florida state schools are trying to get to where UF is, so they offer ‘merit’ to attract students who might otherwise choose UF. Higher ranked out of state schools (Mich, UVA, UNC, etc) and privates need to offer $35k-60k to get to the same $10k out of pocket. Those public schools are notoriously ‘stingy’ with merit as well, because they don’t need to be generous to get the quality students that they desire. Therefore, UF doesn’t need to offer merit to get the high achieving, but not elite students. The scholarships UF does give are designed to attract those choosing between the elite national universities (Ivy League, etc.), not in state rivals…
There is no scholarship form on my portal, does this mean I did not receive a merit scholarship?
Seems like they rolled out the out of state scholarships, but not the presidential scholarships. I guess we have to wait and see.
Maybe only $2000 and out of state scholarships posted? Not sure about Presidential because it’s in-state.
I am not bitter that my son didn’t get merit, just wish he had.
We knew how many they gave last year and we know many very high achieving students that haven’t gotten merit…so we didn’t have hopes up too high.
@minniemouse143 - My D got notified for the Presidential - damn! (Secretly hoping she was going to that other school in FL.)
Go Noles!!
Did everyone who received the $2000 scholarship receive an email today saying to check their portal for merit scholarship information? My D got a letter congratulating her on being selected for a merit scholarship and that there’s been an update to her UF application but when I click the link it shows last update 2/8th and only the original $2000 she was awarded as part of the research scholars was showing. I’m not sure if that was already there. I’d appreciate your thoughts.
So have the presidential scholarships been rolled out?
Can someone in-state who got the $2k scroll down through the conditions and tell me what it says? I just looked and it says it’s an OOS tuition waiver (and if the Status changes to resident it goes away). My DS is in-state and clearly classified as such. Makes no sense.
2015collegemom-My D’s letter says resident tuition waiver in the first paragraph under admissions honors scholarship. Is this what you are asking about? She’s in-state. Did you DS also get a letter today to check his portal for an update on merit scholarship? I’m trying to find out if the notification we received was for the $2000.
@nhpm510 Congratulations!!
