UF or FSU...that is the question

I've recently been accepted to both UF and FSU and I'm interested in studying Environmental Science, and I need to make my decision by March 1st. Through a little bit of research I've found that FSU has more science based classes for environmental science and UF only has Environmental Engineering, which FSU doesn't have. I've always had this dream of going to UF, and going there is what my goal was throughout high school, so I feel like if I have this rare opportunity to go there, then why not? Well, the acceptance rate is very low, so most of my friends didn't get in and are therefore going to FSU. So I might know a small handful of people at UF vs. many more at FSU plus my two closest friends. I am shy, so I would definitely feel more comfortable being around people I know. Also, I have visited both schools and I definitely liked FSU's campus and general atmosphere better. I felt like FSU was more welcoming and at UF I felt like there was a vibe that said "well, we'll see if you're good enough to go here." I don't really care about which school is better for partying, what the parking scenarios are, or what the dorms are like, because they're all going to be small and generic. So, if FSU and UF had the same reputation, I would choose FSU. However, UF seems to have a better reputation. I am also worried that UF's academics will be too hard for me. My test scores were in the middle 50% for UF and above the middle 50% at FSU. I don't want to struggle through college, but I also want a challenge, preferably one that I can achieve. Right now I'm thinking I will want to continue on and get a masters degree, so maybe I could go to FSU for undergrad where I'm more comfortable and can make a better transition into college, and then go to UF for my masters so that I can have a degree with a good reputation? I could have the science background and then be able to specialize in the engineering side of it so that I can find a more successful career? Does this sound like a good idea? Sorry this is such a long post, there is just so much to think about. I would really like some advice on what should be more important: my future career or how comortable I am in daily life.

It sounds as if you have a tough decision to make and at this point you know what the issues are. In the big picture, both are good schools. Have you looked at the different career path differences for Environmental Engineering vs. Environmental Science? Also, as an incoming Freshman, your final major may be quite different from what you are now interested in.

At least this is a bump to the top for you. Good luck with your decision.
