Hey, just wanted to get some opinions on both schools. Trying to get s general idea of how these two compare and which one is the better option. But, I really want to know how each university is really like in terms of academics, social scene, and life in general. Plan on majoring in Marketing here :)

Thanks, all opinions are much appreciated :)

Academics is not as good as UF. However, with any school you get what you put into. UCF has an excellent business program but it isn’t as good as the one in G-ville. The UF College of Business was ranked in Financial Time’s Top 100. The only downside I see to G-ville is that you won’t get the same amount of internships because it isn’t that big of a town. In my opinion as a senior and soon to be UCF freshman, I would choose UF because of its prestige as well as quality of academics. It is simply an opportunity that must be grabbed! But it is your family’s decision. If your S decides to become a Knight then I would be equally as happy.

PS: Both UF and UCF are big party schools…but they party harder in the Swamp!

Andre

Housing: Housing at UCF is far better than the facilities at UF. The dormitories at UCF are updated. You’ll never have to share a bathroom with more than three other people.

Campus: UF is aging and needs to be updated. UCF is constantly under construction and being updated and refitted to facilitate its large number of students.

Social Scene: There is obviously more things to do in Orlando than in Gainesville.

Thanks a lot! Really appreciate the unbiased answer there

It’s hard to let UCF go, but I think (or would hope) that the prestige of UF can outweigh the sacrifice of not going to UCF. Plus, I really DONT like the Honors college people at UCF since they’re extremely rude and don’t care about anyone but their National Merit Scholars which pretty much makes up the UCF Honors college. I’m a senior in HS and just wanted to know if the school where one gets their undergrad really matters for Grad school??

Well for your major, I’m not sure exactly where UCF stands, but I can tell you that the campus is so much better at UCF than at UF! Everything is newer, and you have pretty easy access to everywhere, with shuttles etc.
For the dorms, I’ve heard so many bad things about UF and have seen the ones at UCF, and to be honest, UCF has it! They are a lot better, and newer of course.
As for the social life, UCF is in Orlando, which is a big town, and has LOTS to do. From theme parks to the nearby beach of Cocoa, you’ll never be bored. While in Gainesville, it’s only a small town, where the university pretty much owns half of it. So nowhere to really go else than the univ. itself.

here is my opinion (:

Much appreciated

Idk, I want to go to a school that has a lot of opportunity and I’m not sure which school can take me there: UF with it’s prestige or UCF with it’s city and internships

As for Grad school, it’s better to go to two different schools for your undergrad and Grad. If everything works out I plan to get a BS in Economics at UCF and an MBA or JD somewhere else.

Didn’t you already made a decision of going to UF? I find it amusing that you want to compare schools when UF is already your choice. Just stick with it and hope for the best. Whatever university you go to, it’s ultimately up to you to make your college experience a worthwhile one.

Good luck at UF.

I prefer UF, but my academics aren’t quite strong enough to get in at the moment, so I’ll be going to UCF.

Like everyone else has already said, UCF buildings are newer and generally nicer.

I prefer UF for its ranking in my major and I just love the Gainesville area. If you like the outdoors, Gainesville has a lot to do. There are a lot more hiking and biking trails around that area than you’ll find in the Orlando area. We love Payne’s Prairie and the surrounding trails.

If you’re more into the city scene then you may prefer UCF’s location in Orlando.

UCF has a very nice, modern looking campus, and the way it is built in a concentric circle makes it much more efficient than UF, which is a clustered up grid that gets bottle neck traffic everyday ughh.

The UF campus is older, has slightly gothic-like architecture that you see in Ivy league schools, as does FSU. The campus at UF is very lush which adds a unique feel, it’s as if your in a rainforest and at college at the same time haha. If you like a collegiate/nature feel then UF is your choice, but be warned the campus can be a nightmare to commute to-and-fro, unless you bike or own a scooter.

I personally chose UCF over UF, simply because it was a better fit for me. I was accepted to UF and people seem surprised that I turned it down. In my opinion UCF has a nicer campus (very modern, clean, and colorful). UF’s campus is also beautiful in a completely different way (older, more traditional college feel with brick buildings.) UF is more noted for its academics, but I think UCF is constantly rising in that department and will soon be up there with the best. It really is just a matter of what feels right for you. No matter where you decide you will have a great experience. Good luck in your decision!

Thanks for all the opinions! Love to keep hearing from both schools

@Mizzxvii I just wanted to ask about both schools. I was set on UCF, but after really thinking about it, reading the comments, and getting horribly treated at the Honors College which I really wanted to get in (rejected btw) i think UF can offer me better opportunities then UCF can

@JKidrauhl Sorry you feel you were treated poorly by UCF honors…just curious what did they do as I have heard nothing but praise regarding their program. Also, my son aspires to go there when its his time and any opinions are appreciated.

First, if your son is applying to the Honors College, do it IMMEDIATELY after your son gets accepted! It would really help a lot in getting in!

Well, when I got my rejection letter from UCF, I was really sad and wanted to know why I got rejected or if there was anything I can do to change my decision. After being on hold for like 5 min. I spoke to the women that was head of admissions there (or something along those lines). She said “Well from our records, we see that your test scores are too low for our Honors standards and low for that of the university. I’m frankly surprised you were admitted with these scores, have some of them have not been reported”. It was right there when I just starting going off!!!

To make a long story short, the last thing she said was “Sir, if you’re going to keep up with this attitude, you can kiss any chance of honors here goodbye” which I responded “Oh really? Cause I won’t tell you what you can kiss” and hung up the phone. It was right there that going to UF seemed like the best decision since UCF regular just doesn’t compare due to lack of prestige. To be fair, UCF is a great school with a nice campus and dorms with a fun city to back it up. But, I felt that UF would give me more opportunity then UCF.

Sorry to hear that…Most people would say that UF is a far better school than UCF which in certain respects it is. However, when comparing the honors colleges it seems UCF has them beat. As seeing that both are huge universities, the perks that UCF honors offers you are pretty priceless. Not to mention that UCF is the FL U that has the specific major my son wants, and he will have far better internship opportunities available to him in Orlando. I think that UCF, Uf, and FSU are all great universities with different +'s and -'s-it just depends what your major is and where you feel most at home. Good luck at UF, I’m sure you will love it- but please try not to become one of them gator nation obsessed people who think they are so much better than anyone who didn’t attend UF:)

Haha will do! I’m majoring in Marketing and I hear UF is has an outstanding marketing program which is always a plus. After reading some posts from some UF obsessed jerks, I certainty don’t want to end up like them. Just humble of where I went to school

I have to admit, would have chooses UCF Honors over UF but after that incident I just about had it with them. Hopefully your son will have better luck then I did. Good luck! :)

SO which are you choosing?

Is was leaning towards UCF for a LONG TIME, but after that I’m going with UF

Just couldn’t turn down that opportunity, plus they offered WAY more financial aid then UCF did which is always a plus. Kinda looking forward to it, just that I don’t know how things really go down at “The Swamp” lol

After what* exactly?

That whole honors college tiff…plus UF offered double what UCF was offering in terms of financial aid!
