UF PACE

My son recently submitted an application to UF. Over the past few days he had files show up that deleted his major putting him in the “liberal arts” fish bowl. He was informed that he was accepted into PACE.
Which he did not apply for.
He asked friends at school and all but one were accepted as Freshmen. They all had similar GPAs, lower SATs, and no Florida 4-H experience as my son has. And they got in.

So, perhaps someone might be able to explain why my son was not accepted (other big name schools have accepted him with big $$$). And to simply offer him entry into a program that does not let him take classes (as he already has 45 credits going in!)…
PACE does not give the college experience, it also does not give you the same access to campus as other students, and you have to pay for the classes.

So, in addition to being offered PACE - it doesn’t even allow my son to take courses… because they also deleted his major!

I called and emailed yesterday. NO one answers the phone… Other universities are willing and able to answer the phones.

UF Rank : 35 (yesterday)
UF Rank: 4078 (my rank)
Answer your phones and don’t stick students into places they did not ask for… and DON"T EDIT THEIR APPLICATIONS!

@SwimIBMOM No one actually selects PaCE. UF receives more applications for great students then it has room for so it is an alternative to join the Gator Nation from the beginning. FAQs are here https://admissions.ufl.edu/learn/pace/faq

Admissions will be back at work Monday morning.

The best thing to do when you receive an admissions offer that isn’t to your liking is to move on and encourage your child to do the same. Admissions decisions sometimes make us scratch our heads because they are subjective. It sounds like you son has other offers he’a Happier with.

^ I agree with moving on. Nothing wrong with PACE per se, but if it’s not what your child wants, there are tons of great schools out there. Most schools would either accept or reject. The large FL state schools (particularly UF and FSU) have pathway programs. Not sure if UCF and USF do. WIth PACE it’s not as simple as becoming a full gator later. Their are major (as in academic studies) restrictions. You can’t transfer to a non PACE major is my understanding, so watch that if your kid feels it would be limiting.

Have a friend who has a daughter who has been a diehard gator her whole life. Got accepted to PACE but not for nursing. Got accepted to UCF. She was trying tof igure out how to make nursing work at UF. Uh…no, go to the school that has your major (and allows you to access it). Otherwise, why are you going to college?

@SwimIBMOM To reiterate what @GatorCheer noted, it sounds like your son could transition to on-campus courses after two semesters of online classes. All PaCE students are welcomed and encouraged to go to campus and use campus resources when they opt-in to the UF Online Fee Package. When students accept PaCE offers, they re-select their major. Here are a few resources: https://ufonline.ufl.edu/news/uf-online-welcomes-pace-uf23/, https://ufonline.ufl.edu/admissions/pace-program/, https://handbook.ufonline.ufl.edu/students/student-fees/, https://admissions.ufl.edu/learn/pace/faq, https://admissions.ufl.edu/learn/pace/. I hope this helps. Please feel free to email pace@ufonline.ufl.edu for more information and to ask questions about the PaCE program.
