Does anyone know if there is a UF parents group on here or Facebook with some “seasoned” parents who know the ropes? My D will be a Fall 2015 freshman engineering ( aero or Mech/physics major or minor) and will be in honors and hopefully Hume. Would love some words of wisdom! I did see that on her housing portal the building preferences is up.
This is a Group called UF Parents of 2019–mostly parents of new freshmen, but there are some who have older children there already.
*There is …
Welcome to the Gator Nation! :-bd
Last year, UF’s college of engineering setup a freshman engineering student Facebook group. It’s was a closed group, with invites via e-mail. " UF Gator Engineering Class of 2018". I don’t think they’ve setup a 2019 page yet, but if they do, have your daughter join it.
Other than SWE, also have your daughter sign up for ASME, and go to one or two meetings. If for nothing else, to get on the e-mail list. She’ll get weekly e-mails from SWE and ASME, covering everything from events, available internships to industry site visits. She’ll also find both groups will be a great source of info from older students.
UF offers so much, outside of the class room, it’s one of UF’s strengths. I really recommend you don’t load up on a heavy load of classes your first year, and instead join a few clubs. go to some games, have fun and make some friends.
