You should also apply to several other schools, and try to visit a few (like Eckerd college). Give yourself some options and then see how the merit/need based aid works out at these schools.
In-state tuition is about $6,500 a year at FIU, while it’s $35K a year at Eckerd (using Eckerd as an example). However, merit/need based aid could bring down the cost considerably. A school like Eckerds may be able to provide far more in resources (like advising), it’s a question of cost (and fit). Visit and apply to a few. You may find FIU is the best option, but it doesn’t hurt to look around.
