I pretty much just posted this same thread on the UCF page, but I'm also strongly considering UF so I have a lot of the same questions about UF.
Please answer as many questions as you can :)
1. Housing for freshman - What is the best? I want to be social and I really want to meet a lot of people and make lots of friends to hang out with, but I'm not into drinking or anything, so I don't plan on being social in that sense. I don't want to be somewhere where my roomates will be wasted all the time.
2. Majors - How is the Applied Physiology & Kinesiology major? Is it really difficult? It looks really good from what I can tell; I'm looking at going into physicla therapy.
3. Honors College - What kind of scores do I need to get in? I know there a no actual minimum scores, but what is average for people who get in?
4. Scholarships - When does UF start offering scholarships? I'm applying for Fall 2013.
5. Clubs/Organizations - I want to get involved in some clubs and organizations at UF - recommendations on which clubs to join? I want something I can be regularly involved in where I can meet friends.
6. Roomates - Should I get a single room if I have the chance? Or is having a roomate not so bad?
7. General atmosphere - what is it like living on campus? Do students party a lot or is it easy to meet people who don't party? How easy is it to get to know lots of people there? I'm a little shy lol but I really like hanging out with people and going out with friends a lot.

I think something like Simpson, East, Tolbert, etc. would match what you’re looking for. Not too quiet, but not the other extreme either.

I know nothing about the department other than its in the College of Health and Human Performance. http://apk.hhp.ufl.edu/

There is a minimum to apply to the Honors Program: 4.0, 2070 SAT
Keep in mind that’s a MINIMUM to apply. There are lots of students who have that who don’t get in. [UF Honors Admissions Criteria - University of Florida Honors Program](http://www.honors.ufl.edu/Criteria.aspx)

Unless you’re the next Einstein, National Merit, or out of state, UF doesn’t generally give too many merit based scholarships upon admission. This is because they simply don’t need to. The best students in Florida will go there anyway, and it’s already cheap.

Clubs will be specific to your major and tastes. It’s difficult to reccomend anything.
Here’s a list of organizations: https://ufl.collegiatelink.net/organizations

Roommates are good experience, I would reccomend one.

Just like any large university, you’ll find all sorts of people. There is a large hipster/indie/local movement both on campus and in the city (like a lot of progressive college towns). But you’ll also find plenty of Greeks, Academics, dancers, entrepreneurs, athletes, and artists.

UF is a great school, and I’m sure you’ll find your niche. Best of luck on your admission!

I did get National Merit so maybe they’ll offer me a little something… I know UF will probably not give me a large scholarship, but anything at all will help!
Thanks so much for the dorm recommendations :)

I’m APK right now and I can tell you that the major is amazing. There are so many opportunities for research because all of the professors are doing their own research. They have plenty of organizations that are major specific, such as Phi Epsilon Kappa and Undergraduate Physical Therapy Association. I could go on and on about how much I love my major.

Okay that’s really good to hear! How hard are the science casses you have had to take? I’m a little weak in science, but really good at math. Biology and anatomy aren’t a problem, it’s just physics and chemistry that I struggle with.

Physics and chemistry are… well they are physics and chemistry. But UF offers a lot of FREE tutoring in those courses. Pretty much all health majors need those classes, so you are never alone. Another advantage to APK is that it is in a smaller college, Health and Human Performance. All of the teachers know each other and you get to know everyone in there, so you don’t feel like you are lost in a big school.

Okay I’m willing to work hard so as long as there’s tutoring available I should be fine. My main concern with choosing to go to UF is that it’s such a big school, but maybe if I’m in the APK program it won’t be as bad.

About being hesitant about UF because it’s a big school, you realize UCF has almost 20,000 more undergrads?

Yah UCF has a lot more students, but I’ve heard you don’t get the same “lost” feeling that you do at UF. It’s not the actual number of students I’m worried about I guess, it’s that I’ve heard that since UF has so many students, the professors don’t care as much about the success about each individual student, and even though UCF is really big students don’t get the same feeling. If you’ve had a better experience at UF though, I’d be really interested to hear about it!

I’ve not felt that here, but can’t comment on UCF. I do know that UF has over 5000 faculty compared to about 2000 at UCF. I’m not sure how many only do research at UF, and I think that takes into account Shands. But, UF’s faculty-student ratio of 21:1 compares favorably to UCF’s 32:1.

Wow that’s a pretty significant difference! That makes me feel a lot more better about UF overall…

Jennings is a very social dorm , and the atmosphere is great here!

If you are going into any professional field, UF is much more rigorous. Our first exam in chemistry covered about two more chapters than students at Emory and FSU have covered. That being said, it’s just as easy to get lost in the crowd at UCF versus UF

Did you apply early to get in to Jennings? I’m worried I submitted my $25 fee later than a lot of other people and I will be one of the last people this spring to pick where I want to stay…
