UF questions

I'm a rising senior and considering UF but have some questions that hopefully you can help with.
  1. With a 35 ACT and 4.0 will that gain me automatic entry into the honors program?
  2. What are the advantages of the honors program at UF?
  3. Is there an advantage to applying early to UF?
  4. As a NMF I qualify for the Benacquisto scholarship, are there any little known benefits I should be aware of?
  5. I have a Florida Pre-paid purchased in 2003, BF FAS and the Benacquisto scholarship. How can I maximize having these to the most benefit?
  6. Does the account for funds to be deposited need to be in my name, my dad's name or both?
  7. What are the tax implications depending on who's account it is listed?
  8. What would be the best option as far as dorms?
  9. Would I be able to use the FPP or Benacquisto funds to live off campus if I so choose?
  10. I would enter UF with about 40 credits, how would this affect my funding for the Benacquisto? I will not be pursuing anything past my BS degree.
  11. Is there an admissions officer for my county here in Florida that I would be able to speak with or is correspondence strictly by email?

I have tried to reach out to UF SFA but have been unable to reach anyone to get answers.

That is quite a bit of homework you’ve assigned to us.

@Trisherella I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for anyone to do research. I thought someone familiar with UF and/or kids that have gone thru the process would either know the answers or point me in the right direction. Even just filling in a couple of the questions would help and maybe somebody else might be able to do so as well.

Seriously, Fin Aid office should be able to handle many of these questions.

@Luska19,

  1. Posts on CC said that auto admit was being discontinued. Auto admit started last year, and some posts made it seem that there was push-back. There were posts from a couple students with 1560 SAT this last year who were auto admitted.
  2. Most publicized nd utilized benefits are honors dorm and priority in class selection.
  3. No, although some claim an early application shows greater interest to the AO.
  4. No. It’s a Scholarship that provides money only. No club or social group involved.
  5. Benacquisto starts in fall after HS graduation. BF can be used for Summer B before Benacquisto starts.
  6. Parent name probably not required, but we set it up jointly.
  7. Don’t know, but don’t see why it would matter. The scholarship goes to the student.
  8. Hume Honors Dorm is nicer than other Freshmen dorms.
  9. Yes
  10. Benacquisto will pay until you take the total number of credit hours required for your degree or until you meet graduation requirements, whichever comes first. If you can use all 40 credits that you have from HS, you might meet all graduation requirements in three years, at which time the Benacquisto would stop. Alternatively, if you were studying for a degree that requires 120 hours, the Benacquisto will pay until you take 120 hours at UF if you can avoid fulfilling the graduation requirements until the last semester. You could graduate with 120 credit hours in addition to your 40 hours from HS. Benacquisto will pay as long as you are full time, which is 12 hours per semester. You could drag out the Benacquisto to pay for 5 years of college if you take 12 hours per semester and your degree requires 120 hours.
  11. Don’t know.

@oldandwise Fantastic, thank you so much! My only follow up would be regarding Hume. I have heard it is much nicer than any other freshman dorms but since you can use the funds to live off campus as a freshman, is there a place you would recommend over Hume?
