UF regular vs FSU honors

I have got accepted into both UF regular and FSU honors and I’m not sure where to go. I plan on majoring in Biology or Biomedical Sciences, and I plan on going to Med School. I have been wanting to go to UF, but FSU has some pros. I will most likely have to take out student loans, as I have a single mom who has to send three other kids to college down the road, and I’m going to need to pay for Med School. FSU offered me a scholarship, so that would be helpful in that area. Also, I would be in Honors dorms at FSU which are better than at UF, because I really don’t like community style bathrooms. I have also applied for the Medical Scholars Program at FSU and hope to get in. Also, several of my friends are going there, so that would be nice to be with them.
UF, however, no doubt has a better academic program, especially for pre-med. It has been where I was planning on going, but FSU has been looking good too and I would be happy with either. I also want to be in a sorority, but I don’t know much about Greek Life at either school. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I would say FSU. The academic differences between the two are trivial, and the money thing is a big deal for medical school. Medical schools probably won’t care much about the difference between the two universities, but the honors program will probably look good.

I’m not sure about FSU’S greek life, but from what i’ve heard and gathered, greek life is HUGE at UF. Also, about the communial bathrooms, UF has some apartment/suite styled dorms on campus, so you aren’t necessarily limited to having to share a bathroom with 40 people if that is a deal breaker. Like you said, UF’s pre-med is at the top, and that would most definitely be beneficial to your career and education. I don’t know how bad your financial status is, but if you can afford it, I would go with UF. Then again, I’m kind of biased since it’s my dream school. Btw, admission results for UF don’t come out until Feb 8, how did you already get an answer??

My understanding is that getting into medical school is more about GPA and MCAT scores than what school you went to for undergrad. Either school is probably fine for this.

Greek life is big at FSU as well.

Honors is nice because you get priority scheduling–meaning that you get to pick your schedule before other underclassmen do. Most freshmen have to fight over scraps after classes have filled up. If FSU is giving you money, I’d take it. Again, grades and test scores carry more weight than the difference between UF and FSU.

Well you can base it off a lot of things I guess!
If you are thinking academically then you need to say to yourself; which is more important to me and to Med School, Being at UF which is the better school academically for pre-med or being at FSU which would give you the honors status and whatnot.
If you are thinking socially then you can think about which school will have more of your friends from high school, better clubs for you, distance from home, school look/feel, etc.

UF vs FSU is a big problem! Both are quality schools and the determination between the two can be difficult!

Also, I presume you are High School Grad class of 13’… so how do you already know that you got into UF? I thought they start telling us on February 8th?
Nevertheless, best of luck in your decision!! :)

What matters at med school is your undergrad GPA, your MCAT score, your maturity and commitment to medicine and your ability to interview. Going to either school without these qualities is NOT going to get you into a U.S. allopathic college of medicine. Big state universities at this level are pretty fungible.
