UF Spring 2014 Transfer

Caseyfla,

When did you send in your application? And what was your GPA?

I sent it three weeks ago, although my experience is probably unique because I had applied for a previous semester. GPA is 3.04.

I previously applied (and was accepted) for fall semester. Hopefully mine decision will come quickly as well because of that (and hopefully it’s good news as yours was!). I applied to CALS though and they seem to have a reputation for taking their time.

My status changed and my application has been sent to CALS. I’m so nervous! I really hope I get accepted again and I hope they don’t take forever to let me know lol.

Congratulations!!! Your application to the University of Florida for the Spring 2014 term has been approved!

Official notification will arrive by mail, including the conditions of your admission as well as important orientation and immunization information.

We look forward to seeing you on campus soon, and welcome you to the Gator Nation!

I found out through the UF Application Status on September 10th that I was accepted, and I just received the acceptance letter through the mail today xD They sent it September 3rd, but I hadn’t checked the status for a week because the deadline for my college hasn’t even hit (CLAS, September 15th), and according to the Spring Transfer 2012 forum on this site the users said UF doesn’t even look at your application till after the deadline. I’m really surprised, but I’m SO happy. I was really worried I wouldn’t have enough time to get everything done before moving. FSU still hasn’t made their decision, and that was my back-up. It’s so surreal.

Congratulations @digsthepast and @caseyfla!!!

@toastmoocow How wonderful! Hit those books and you’ll do fine—send an update when you know what grades you’re grading for those classes.

Good luck to @agmama and everyone else awaiting decisions on this forum. Decisions are being made already, so keep a look out.

Congrats Vellex! It feels awesome doesn’t it? I applied to CALS and the deadline is September 15th there as well, but they are notorious for taking a long time with decisions. Hopefully mine will move quickly since I have already applied and been accepted for another semester.

@agmama Thank you! Yes, it really does, and it feels frightening at the same time lol. Yes, on the forums I read CLAS and CALS especially are supposed to take quite a while to get back to students because of high competition there. I guess a lot of students apply to those colleges, so there’s a lot of applications to get through. But I think it really depends on your major specifically—do you know if there’s a lot of competition in your particular major? And you’ve been accepted into UF before?

My major is Agricultural Education and Communication. I don’t think there is a lot of competition for it. I have been through a roller coaster ride trying to get to UF lol. First my admission was denied because I didn’t have the required 2.5 overall gpa (I did really badly at my first attempt at college, 14 years ago). I went and talked to someone at CALS about what to do for the best chance of being accepted for spring under a different major that only required a 2.0 (I was going to do the pre-reqs during fall term). She saw that I wanted to be an AG teacher and sent my app back through with a letter of recommendation from one of the professors and I was accepted for fall. There is a big demand for ag teachers in Florida. One of the requirements was that I completed my AA degree. Well, just my luck I got a difficult teacher for the very last class and ended up with a D. It was Humanities II and that requires a C for credit. I took Humanities I with a different professor and got a B…I put the same amount of effort into Humanities II, so I don’t know what the heck happened. They’re essentially the same class, they just cover different time periods. I went to preview anyway so I could talk to my advisor because admissions said I may be able to get in without the AA. Turned out, I couldn’t, so I am now repeating the Humanities course and hoping I can get accepted again. My advisor was very sympathetic and could see that I am doing much better now (my GPA since returning in fall 2011 is just over a 3.0 and that’s with working and being a single mother), but admissions will only look at the overall gpa, and without the AA I didn’t get grade forgiveness and would be just shy of a 2.0 overall, and thus, not eligible for admission. At my preview there were 5 of us under the Agricultural Education and Communications major, but it has 2 tracks, education or communication, and we went to separate advisors. I was the only 1 of the 5 of us that went to the education advisor. I hope that the fact that I was already accepted once means that they’ll accept me again, but I don’t know if that letter of recommendation is still in my file.

@agmama Oh wow, that is a roller coaster ride lol. That’s great that there’s not much competition for your major. I was told by a UF CLAS advisor that Psychology/Sociology and Biology majors are the ones who struggle the most to get accepted. Those are the majors most students apply for. And wow, what a bad turn of luck with your Humanities II class. Did you look up your professor on ratemyprofessors.com? I didn’t know about it my first semester into college, and I had a HORRID professor for English I. She’s definitely the worst teacher I have ever had (beating my 10th grade biology teacher for that spot isn’t easy lol). She missed class the first two weeks which was my college’s time frame for switching out of classes, so I was stuck with her when she finally came in. And then when I found out about ratemyprofessors, she had incredibly low ratings from 30+ commentators. It was pretty bad lol. I passed her class with a C, and that’s ONLY because I sucked up to her, which apparently was the only way to pass her class according to the comments. English has always been my best subject, so a C was a big low for me. From that point on I always used ratemyprofessors, and it really has not failed me. I know people like to say it all depends on the student to pass a class—but that’s not ALWAYS true. Some professors just can’t teach. Is your current Humanities II professor good this time around?

Yea, I looked her up, but she was the only available instructor for HUM II online (I took all online classes in the summer so I didn’t have to find childcare). She has horrible reviews on there for all the same stuff she did to me. She would take 20% of a grade for 2 spelling or grammar errors. She’d take 10% if there was 1 mistake. I got an A in Comp I, so it was a little ridiculous for me to lose 20% on every writing assignment. She also didn’t mark the mistakes, so I have no idea what they were. I had a 67 and she knew that I was accepted to UF and knew what not passing would mean to me. I even emailed her a week before class ended when I realized I was going to have a D. She didn’t even read it til the day she posted grades. Three more points and I would have passed. If I were an instructor and a student did the work and was that close to passing, I would pass them. My best friend took the class with this instructor and had to bust her butt to get a C…and she had previously been a straight A student. I spent the semester aiming for a C because I knew I was in at UF and the grade didn’t make a difference there as long as I passed. This time I’m aiming for an A. I have the same professor this time that I did for HUM I online, but this time it’s on campus. I really like her. She’s fair and reasonable.

Hi,

I just sent my application and all paper (transcript, Proof of Florida residency, all that stuff) 2 weeks or less ago;I have an overall gpa of 3.0 and Prep courses 3.67. I have applied to economics in CLAS. Do you think that I will get accepted?

yeah you have a pretty good chance of getting accepted, as long as your pre prof GPA is good. Shouldn’t be a problem.

I got in!!
I applied to the College of Business - sent my application around August 16th, last thursday my app was sent to the college and this monday I checked and I was in! Super excited

I’m taking managerial and stats this semester - on my GatorLink page it said I just need to complete the courses successfully, do they tell me a specific grade I need to get?

Bless you all,
AnnuitCoeptis

Congrats ya’ll! I’m a little jealous that some people are finding out so quickly, but after going through this for fall semester, I know not to hold my breath. I’ll probably find out in December lol.

I have a 3.59 overall gpa from my CC, but I got my AA the month after my high school graduation (AP and DE). I applied to the microbiology program in the CALS … What would you say my chances are of getting in?

I swear this wait is harder than the one for fall even though it will be shorter. I’m still in the ISIS system as if I were a student. Under holds it says I have to accept the enrollment agreement to register for spring. My transcripts are there, but they didn’t add the 2 classes that I took during summer B and C. I should post on the CALS facebook and ask when to expect decisions. I don’t want to get my hopes up based on the fact that it’s got me set up to register for spring, since the decision page still says that my application was sent to my college for a decision.

Post! And let us know when they reply! :)

I posted on the CALS Facebook page and they said to continue checking our ISIS accounts and they anticipate all decisions to be in by November 15th.

I’m having second thoughts about UF. I attended UCF’s campus tour and it seemed was so nice. I’m worried about the location of UF also, the campus isn’t that great either. Anyways i do know I have got another school to rely on (UCF) if I don’t get into UF.
