UF SSTP 2018

@gkdudtlffj I was in the first wave of applicants for SSTP, and I turned my application in around the end of February. The selection committee had issues with accessing my recommendations so I got my decision a little late

How were you all notified of the decision?

Never mind, I was accepted

@sadindiankid Did you apply to FSU YSP?

Yes I did apply.

Hey guys! I got accepted out-of-state. Do you guys know how labs are chosen? I wouldn’t want to waste 7 weeks working in a lab researching something I don’t like. I read some other comments saying they were kinda random.

I was also wondering exactly how prestigious UF SSTP and how many people accept. Also, do you guys know how it compares to SSP (Summer Science Program)? I know that at SSP, it’s only 5 weeks and you don’t conduct your own research, but it also only accepts 35 students for the biochem program.

These are the sites MIT wrote about SSTP on:
http://mitadmissions.org/apply/prepare/summer
http://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/juniors_mit_and_other_summer_p

SSP is way more prestigious than UF SSTP. Like 1000000x. The UF SSTP Program is nice and stuff, but it’s not top tier. @axca88

Huh ok, thanks! Are you choosing SSTP? @sadindiankid

I got a really nice opportunity recently and if that works out I wont attend SSTP @axca88

wait so then did you defer your acceptance? aren’t you afraid your spot will get taken? @sadindiankid

lol i paid the 500 and accepted @axca88 so i have a back up plan in case things dont work out

In my opinion fsu is not the center of education. Research can be referred too in college papers. Just because they accept 35 kids doesn’t mean that is the strongest program avaliable.

In no way am I saying FSU is the center of education. FSU’s program might be more selective than UF’s program, but after talking to many people I decided that UF’s program is better than FSU’s program and is also definitely more prestigious. @biologylover223 @axca88 I just got a better opportunity so I’m not planning on attending either of them.

@sadindiankid Was the program like independent research with a professor? Did you get accepted by FSU YSP?

@biologylover223 YSP is definitely more prestigious than SSTP because it’s much more competitive and is a fully-funded program. The free programs are always the most prestigious.

Btw, if any of you applied to YSP, here’s the thread: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/2062569-fsu-ysp-2018.html#latest.

PM me idk how to pm you lol @esperantist

YSP is free?
