UF-SSTP Summer 2011

I applied to University of Florida's Student Science Training Program and was wondering what my chances are of acceptance. Here are my stats:

Grade: 11
GPA: 3.98 unweighted/ 6.68 weighted
Class Rank: 1
PSAT: 217
Extracurriculars: Mu Alpha Theta (math honor society, 10-11, historian), International Thespian Honor Society (4-star thespian, 9-10, competed at districts and state), Interact Club (11), soccer coach, founded a charity in the 8th grade

I took AP Bio (5) and AP World (4) in my sophomore year. I am taking APUSH, AP Lang, AP Chem, AP Psych, AP Physics C, and AP Environmental this year. I took Introductory Physics (A) and Physics I w/ Calc (B) at the community college. I took Calc 1 (A) at community college, also, when I was a freshman, then Calc 2 (A) and 3 (A) and Differential Equations (A) when I was a sophomore.

My teacher recommendations said that I am friendly, helpful, hard-working, and intelligent and I had 10s for everything on both forms.

What are my chances of getting in? How and when will I be notified? Also, is anyone else applying for this year?

Thank you so much for all of your help! =)

From the people I have talked to who have gone or known kids who have gone, it’s not extremely selective. But even if it was, you would still get in. The teacher recommendations are really important (and yours seem good) and so is your transcript(how can you have a 6.68 weighted?)! The guy I know who went didn’t have perfect grades or all the extracirriculars that you do. Really impressive.

Anyway, I applied too. (kinda feeling self-conscious now, lol) And according to the UF-SSTP Facebook page “If you applied before March 4th, you should receive a notification letter in the mail by the end of next week.”

Good luck! Hope to see you there!

If you recieve a letter, please let me know! Only four more mail days left!

This is a very one-sided conversation. . . But I got my acceptance package today! Just FYI! :)

I just came upon this thread and had to ask a bit: @muggle, are you planning to attend SSTP :O? Or, do you plan to wait for other program decisions? (I’m asking because I just got my acceptance package but am very indecisive…^^.)

I didn’t apply to any other programs. So yes, I will be attending SSTP. I am really excited about the program and I hope I’ll see you there!

What other programs did you apply to? I know there are other more competitive and prestigous programs, but SSTP seems like the perfect fit for me. :)

I applied to Davis’s YSP and the UC system’s COSMOS, as well as NIH (lol I’ll so get in…-sarcasm-) and a couple of NASA things (lol again…).

I’m starting to lean towards SSTP, but may end up taking back the payment/decision if I say yes in lieu of something closer, haha. I’m looking forward to meeting you though, if I go xD!

Wow. It just didn’t occur to me that people from all over the country would apply!

I hope you go! :D
