Anyone here attended UF SSTP summer program? D got in, but I do not know how good and selective this summer program is.
I attended this past summer and loved it! My roommates and I still keep in touch, even though two of them were from Cali. I highly reccomend it, plus the research opportunity looks really good when applying to colleges and most proffessors are willing to write rec letters when the time comes, along with undergrad research opportunities when she does go to UF. Last year they chose around 90 kids out of 400 something, they said it was close to 19% acceptance rate. Congrats!
@Screennname Thank you. It is great to have alumni here answering questions. How was a lab selection? If she indicated that engineering is her choice, I hope she will not end up with biology or something else unrelated to her future major.
For the most part kids were pretty happy with it, personally, I specified computer science and conducted research in that field. Labs are assigned by proffessors who accept taking on apprentices to their team, if I’m not mistaken they’re the ones who choose their students so it’s not entirely out of the hat but there is some luck involved. There were probably 2 or 3 kids in total who absolutely hated their lab, everyone else could at least tolerate those but most kids really enjoyed it.
