I first posted this in the U Florida discussion, to no avail...

Hi-

I am currently in my Sophomore year of college at UWF, but decided that I'd like to transfer so I applied to FSU and UF this past November. I was accepted at FSU, for which I am very grateful...as I have been skimming the boards and reading articles regarding the "unnatural disaster" FL schools are currently facing. My issue is this: part of me wants to just go to FSU since I am already accepted, and start getting in line for off campus housing and other arrangements that will have to be made before I attend. However, I feel that it would be wrong to do this until I am aware of my admission status at UF- unfortunately, they delayed their admission decision notification until April 25. I feel very conflicted about this, but I would feel better about making a decision if some of you that are familiar with this process at FL schools could let me know your opinion on whether or not I will even be accepted to UF...

Here are my stats:

AA from UWF (U of West Florida)
3.2 GPA
High upward trend (performed at a very average level Freshman year, recovered with a 3.7 and am anticipating a 3.9 this semester, but this is not figured into my cumulative GPA)
Strong academic schedule (19 credit hours, all prerequisites for major- Political Science- either completed or in the process of completion)

I'd really appreciate the input, thank you in advance...

John

bump, please. I'd really like to get a reply or two.

bump... sorry to be obnoxious, but I am really concerned about this. Also, it's my birthday.. haha irrelevant, I know, but really...

FSU has a better political science program than UF. Also, keep in mind that it is in Tally, so you will have a great chance of interning at the capitol. I have several friends there who are currently working under Senators or Congressmen.

So would you say that the more highly ranked program and better opportunity for intership trumps UF's perceived better reputation overall?

Absolutely. FSU's higher ranked program is in the best location in Florida for this major.

"So would you say that the more highly ranked program and better opportunity for intership trumps UF's perceived better reputation overall?"

I think you just answered your own question. Better ranked program and better opportunity for internships vs. perceived reputation on a message board.

I hope this thread doesn’t take a bad turn like the rest of the "FSU vs. UF" threads. Both schools will give you similar opportunities upon graduation. The whole "reputation" thing gets little overplayed on these forums. There's no point on transferring, unless you really want to be a Gator. JMHO

Thank you- this is the impression I got from my research, but it does seem like CC tends to play up the reputation of UF more than is deserved... that is where I had some doubts but thank you for the confirmation. It was cold today so I went out and bought an FSU beanie :)
