UF Transfer Fall/Summer 2019

Hello! On December 13, I applied to transfer to the University of Florida Summer B Term. I have not heard back from CLAS or the office of admission yet about my application being referred. Towards the end of December everything but my AICE scores were checked off. On January 2, everything was received. Does anybody know when I will receive a decision?

Major: Sociology
Overall GPA: 3.7
Term Applied: Summer B
Transferring from: UCF
Credits: Around 86 but 60+ come from Dual Enrollment/AP/AICE
In my statement of intent I wrote about wanting to participate in research at UF pertaining to political sociology.
I was wondering if you could chance me for admission.

I hope you can help! @Gator88NE

I think Sociology is in CLAS (college of liberal arts and sciences)? The application due date for Summer B is March 1’st. They may wait till after that date, to review all of the apps and then announce decisions, but that’s just a guess.

Hey! I am basically in the same boat as you, also a transfer going for sociology but my gpa is a 3.5. My application was complete on 1/4/19 but I haven’t heard anything at all either. Good luck to you and please let me know if you receive any updates!

College: Engineering
Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.79
Application finalized date: 01/20/2019
Term Applied To: Summer A/C

I am transferring from Santa Fe. Currently taking my last 2 prereqs, so I don’t think I’ll be accepted this time. I figured I’d give it a shot, though. Also, I am a vet. Good luck everyone!

Update: a couple of days ago I called CLAS to ask for an update. The academic advisor told me she could email the transfer admissions team to speed up my application and of course, I said yes. Later that day I received my decision. it was a rejection. I called the next day to ask for the reason why and they told me that it was because I had no record of a Sociology GPA and that I could send my Spring Semester grades to get my application re-evaluated. I am just frustrated because I have to wait longer for something they could have told me in the first place. They should really tell you these things when you are researching into the Transfer process. They just said 2 sociology courses were required, one of which I am enrolled in and the other I received through Cambridge AICE. This would have been inevitable as more than half my credits come from AP/AICE.

Wow! I am completely shocked by this! @gatorasaknight I can only imagine how frustrated you are because I thought you would for sure get in! I am confused on how you have no record of a Sociology GPA though if they can see you are enrolled in one currently and took one in the past. Im in the same situation as you. I am currently taking a sociology class and took one in the past, so now I am afraid I may get rejected as well.

You should be fine as you will have your AA and you took a sociology class. I got my first class credit through AICE @hopetobeagator

You said you have 86 credits though, so don’t you also have your AA? Plus I thought AICE class credits were counted as college credits, so I am confused as to why that is an issue. @gatorasaknight

I got most from Dual Enrollment and AICE classes which didnt count for much in terms of college credit Gen Eds @hopetobeagator

Update: did the transfer chat thing that CLAS has on their website. Spoke to an advisor about my situation. They said I should’ve been given a condition of acceptance instead and that they messed up my courses in progress. My app is currently being reevaluated!

@gatorasaknight oh my goodness!! That is so exciting I am really happy for you!! I hope that you get in this time around, I was pretty sure they messed up so I am glad you spoke to them! Keep me updated! (:

@gatorasaknight Nice, fingers crossed!

Hi, all. Didn’t see a more general 2019 Transfer thread yet so I figured better here than nowhere to comment at this time lol

So, on November 5th, I applied to transfer to UF for the Fall 2019 Term. I didn’t hear anything back from the office of admission yet about my application being referred to the CLAS or anything at all until January 29th, when I was asked to provide an update regarding my courses in progress (there were no changes from my prospective Spring 2019 course list that I provided in my initial application last November). When my FSU transcript was updated with my Fall 2018 grades, UF received everything requested by December 20th.

Major: Political Science
Overall GPA: 3.574
Term Applied: Fall
Transferring from: FSU
Credits: 71, with 30 coming from AP’s & Dual Enrollment (Broward College)
Statements of Intent: I wrote about how I’m seeking a Political Science degree to help prepare myself for the legal education I hope to obtain as well as a hopeful future career in either the legal and/or public service fields. I also wrote about my strong experience in the political field, both academically as well as with regards to employment.

Here’s where things get interesting, though: this past Friday, I received an update on my application status portal, & it was a rejection. The reason provided for my rejection was that “students with less than 60 semester hours” aren’t accepted, which was weird considering I’d have 71 credits completed at the time of my potential enrollment, so I called the admissions office & spoke to an admissions officer who told me that my application had been denied by the admissions office without being referred to the CLAS but that somebody in the admissions office must’ve miscounted my credit hours b/c he counted my credit hours as we spoke & he confirmed I’d have more than 60. When he confirmed this, he undid my rejection (as he also confirmed during our call that I had also already met the admission office’s requirements (foreign language proficiency, GPA) & told me he was thus referring the application to the CLAS for their consideration, so all fine & dandy, right?

Except… no. Once again, today, about half an hour ago, I received another update on my application status portal, & once again, it was a rejection. And once again, the reason provided for my rejection was that “students with less than 60 semester hours” aren’t accepted. So I just don’t know what’s going on now. Perhaps somebody in the CLAS miscounted my credit hours as well after my application was referred to them? Certainly weird, but weirder things have happened I guess. I don’t know. I’m sitting in a class right now as I type this so I haven’t been able to call UF yet, but you better believe I’ll be doing so as soon as my class lets out.

In the meantime, @Gator88NE any advice as to what could be going on?

@brucejoel199 that definitely seems to be the case because when my app was under the office of admission it was set as a readmission app and when it got sent to CLAS even though the office of admission switched it to transfer, it got switched to readmission again. So I would definitely call them and explain your situation they’ll probably ask you to send your courses in progress or something to Transfer Appeals but you should be fine.

Just wanted to post an update that I was accepted today!! Good luck to you all!!

@hopetobeaGator OMG!! Congratulations :slight_smile:

Hi everyone. UF is one of my top choices! Good luck to all.

California community college student
White / Female
Major: Telecommunications (Production)
GPA: 3.9
Extracurriculars: YouTube and freelance writing/editing
Job/Work Experience: part-time teacher
Volunteer/Community service: 5 years for hospice care, 2 years for food banks, 3 years tutoring, 1 year teacher’s assist
Units/credits: I should hopefully have 90 quarter units by the end of spring quarter, right now I have 75 I think.

I couldn’t find too much about transfer requirements, but on the journalism department page it said to complete the equivalents of:

ENC1102 – Argument and Persuasion
AMH2020 – American History since 1877
POS2041 – American Federal Government
STA2023 – Introduction to Statistics
ECO2013 – Principles of Macroeconomics
Attention Advertising & Public Relations Majors: PSY2012 General Psychology is accepted in lieu of POS2041

I’ve done those all (except taking macroeconomics next quarter, I’m taking micro now) so hopefully I have a shot!

I just wanted to post on here because I know how stressful waiting for a decision can be and how helpful this site can be at relieving that stress.

Major: Sociology
Overall GPA: 3.8
Term Applied: Summer B
Transferring from: UCF

I applied back in early December and got referred to CLAS on January 9th. On January 31st, I got my acceptance. I am a freshman with most of my credits coming from AICE/ AP courses. I was originally told that I could not be accepted because I did not have a sociology gpa, since my SYG2000 credit came from an AICE class and I am currently taking my second sociology course. I felt really defeated but I never received an official rejection, that is just what I was told over the phone. A few days later I used the transfer chat to talk to an advisor and they said I should not be rejected for not having a ‘sociology gpa,’ and when she asked for my UF ID number I realized I had received my acceptance letter. Bottom line is I think there is a lot of confusion this year within the CLAS transfer advisors. I would never say anything bad about UF and I understand they have to go through a lot of applications, but keep calling them and speak to different people!!! Also, use the transfer chat it’s super helpful and easier than talking to an advisor over the phone if that makes you nervous (like me). Once I got my official acceptance it came with two conditions, I need to receive at least a B in my current sociology course and receive my AA prior to enrollment. I am only a few classes shy of receiving my AA, but it was still super stressful thinking about taking those courses summer A and then taking classes at UF summer B (but of course I’d do whatever it takes to get into UF). I used the transfer chat today and explained my AA condition, because I was under the impression if you are coming from a 4 year university an AA degree is only recommended NOT required. The advisor I spoke to confirmed this, and is changing my conditions to remove needing my AA degree. Also, for any other sociology majors that are curious, I got accepted without having STA2023, but I will have to take it my first semester at UF Like I said, it seems like not everyone is on the same page this semester in CLAS advising so don’t be afraid to contact them as much as possible. They do make mistakes!!

I wanna join you guys and drop my stats here!
