UF & Two D's on Transcript?

Please accept my apologies if I posted this in the wrong section.

I skipped the third grade and entered my freshman year of high school just as I had turned 13. I did horrible, and ended up with a combination of a few A’s and B’s, a C or two, and two D’s on my final report card. This left me with around a 2.7 W GPA. I am now about to enter my senior year and have a 4.26 W GPA. I have not gotten a D since then. Will this affect my chances of getting into a somewhat prestigious school, particularly UF? I have some pretty solid extracurriculars, a good ACT score, and I’ve taken/will take 10+ AICE/DE college courses but I’m not sure if I will be able to explain away those two D’s. Should I be worried even though my situation was a bit unique coming into HS?

To put it out there, your situation is not “unique”. This happens to a whole lot of kids entering high school, and some of them do great, and some of them don’t. The fact of the matter is: you entered high school knowing what was going to happen, and you hiccupped. The admissions officers won’t offer special treatment because of your one year early entrance.
Now, to answer your original question. If you have indeed shown significant improvement since then, you still have a solid shot of getting into some colleges. I’m not exactly sure about UF, but you should be able to get in somewhere with your GPA (what is the UW btw?).

UW is relatively low, around 3.3 if I recall correctly.

Colleges should somewhat overlook your freshman year since you did well soph and junior year but your at a big disadvantage. Is the 4.26 W gpa including freshman year? If so I think you have a good chance. If not, it’s a reach but you Have a chance.

Yep, that 4.26 includes freshman year. Would it help that I’ve gotten A’s in all the university dual enrollment classes I’ve taken on campus so far? I can see how that could show that I started to take school more seriously, me being a bit too young and stupid coupled with some pretty bad depression has messed things up a bit lol

We all have unique situations and good explanations for why we messed something up. The fact of the matter is that you’re competing against kids with much better grades. Obviously you’ve improved since freshman year and that will make matters a little better for you, but if I’m being honest, the higher tier schools will most likely not accept you unless you have a really amazing hook or a really amazing list of ECs. Obviously your age and depression are valid reasons for doing poorly, BUT they don’t justify the poor performance. Officers aren’t going to simply overlook 1/4 of your high school career.

Bottom line: yes, it will hurt you (sorry :frowning: ) and you need to be prepared for that, BUT you still have a chance at some high tier schools

Thank you for the honest reply, I appreciate it

I guess I’ll just have to hope for the best.
