UF v. UM

Hi
So the deadline for admissions is approaching quickly and I was wondering what anyone thought of the difference between Miami and Florida. I hope on majoring in biochemistry with the hopes of doing premed. I know both have excellent educations but I'd like to know what you thought of your personal experiences with miami or florida concerning the atmosphere and community and culture.

thanks

Gee let me think here:

UF = (50) and costs 3K a year

UM = (55) and costs 30K a year

That’s a really tuff decision. I would only go to UM if I couldn’t get into UF.

I personally have never been to U of M, but I have visited U of F, and it is a really beautiful campus. Gainesville is a pretty nice college town, with a lot to do, but not a big city feel. I personally would pick UF in a heartbeat, there are just so many activities to do there, and the academics are just as good as UM, plus it is way cheaper. I guess I would also go there because I know more people there, oh and I would go there because there athletics are much better to watch since they are good in just about every sport. I have a couple of friends who go to UM too, and they say they like it too. I guess it all comes down to whether you want super cheap school (plus if you have bright futures it would basically be free), or to pay a lot. And if you want the big city with the beach right there, or a more traditional college town in relatively the middle of nowhere.

what if UF is costing me the same, if not a little more, than UM. Would you still pick UF?

You have to make this decision for yourself, don't let people on a message board do it for you.

I agree.
You are just making it harder; if you follow all the people here you will go insane and end not going anywhere but to an Ivy league school.

oh no, I already chose UF because I think they have stronger programs in which I'm interested. I was just curious what other people would do, since they brought up financial reasons.

I honestly would still go to UF for the following reasons:
-I know a lot of people there
-I've visited and it's a very nice campus
-Plenty of activities
-Great sports to watch
-Not too far from my home, but yet not too close

As you can see those are my circumstances that makes me want to go there over UM, so do what ever you think best suits you.

choose UF, you can build up the debt when you hit medical school. Personally I know that UF has an awesome biochemistry program. There are two tracks you can follow: the chem dept or the med school.
