UF vs. FSU. HELP MEEE. and "chances?"

ok so first of all, those were the only two i applied to. i already got accepted to FSU and obviously im still waiting to hear back from UF. i keep telling myself that if i get into UF, thats definitely where im going. but the more i think about it, the more i ponder whether that would be the right decision or not...

im hoping to major in biological science (vague, but im working on it) with a minor in music performance. FSU has a good science department and one of the best music schools in the nation. conversely, UF is amazing at, well, everything! thoughts? opinions?

also, ive never done this before but i was just looking at some of the other "chance" posts and i thought i'd give it a shot:

--17 yo male in virginia
--SAT: CR-610, M-610, W-700
--GPA: (havent bothered to calculate it on the UF scale) 3.6 W by my school's standards (4.0 normal classes, 5.0 AP)
--varsity swim team letterman, 4 years. head captain as junior and senior. made districts, regionals 4 years. states as a junior and senior.
--choir: 4 years in high school choirs. been in all-county, all-district since sophomore year. made acda national choir in junior year. made vmea honors choir and all-state in senior year.
--held a part-time job throughout most of high school
--community service includes: neighborhood swim team assistant coach, swim lesson instructor, T.A. to an autistic children's class, and a few more things.

any feedback would be GREAT and well-appreciated!!

Well your gpa isn’t that high if you look at their averages from last year and well your sat score isn’t really as strong as it should be for UF but who knows OOS helps sometimes.

GPA and SAT scores aren’t everything. You have a solid SAT score at 1310. weighted GPA seems low though, but UF takes into consideration where you go to school and how the system works there. You have a great resume with all those extracurricular activities. you are definitely a possible candidate to get in, and being out of state helps as well.

thanks…and yeah when i went down to UF for the seminar, they said the holistic aspects of your application are verrrrry important so i really tried to impress upon them that i do a LOT of extraciriculars! but yeah i dunno, i think they could either love me or hate me…im pretty nervous for friday. AHHH.

“CR-610, M-610” does not equal 1310, they don’t count writing.

Thats a 1220 SAT score, UFGators.
If you get in, I don’t see why you would go to FSU over UF, UF is the better school.

true it is the “better” school. but doesnt it all depend on whats best for the individual? i dunno. at least point im definitely leaning toward UF.

Well, all that people you’ve never met on the internet can tell you is which school is better. If you want to know if it will fit you as an individual you need to visit.

Better school for what? It all depends on your major.

If you’re thinking about a major in Agricultural Sciences, UF would be a better choice. For anything music related, go with FSU.

I agree with ay bobbay, it does depend. Yes UF has a better football team, and is harder to get admitted. But it is not necessarily the better school. You will most likely be successful and have fun wherever you go.

I hope you know that the answers on this board are obviously going to be bias. Personally, I have chosen to attend Florida State for fall 2008 even though I know I can possibly get into UF. I think it really depends on where you feel comfortable. Visit both campuses, talk to the people there, drive around the town, make a list of the pros and cons of both schools and then make your choice. Also, consider what you want to study because it is after all your future. My major is Art History and my minor is Museum Studies, so I clearly felt more at home when I went to Florida State. Don’t listen to people who try to make you go to a school because it’s “well known” or “popular.” Do whatever feels right, and you’ll ultimately pick the school that suits you. Best of luck!

Mari

woops, sorry i looked at the wrong score. my bad.

thanks mari i completely agree. and as i said before FSU MBA, i do plan to study music in college, particularly choir or singing related studies as you could probably guess from my resume haha. and yeah FSU has a fantastic music program. i think thats what will make my decision so difficult (assuming im accepted to UF). but we’ll just have to wait til friday…

You’re in. UF is overrated, but it’s better than FSU.

Go to both schools.

Personally, the atmosphere at FSU was MUCH MUCH MUCH better, in my opinion (which means nothing to a lot of people) than UF. It all depends on what your major is. For me, im leaning with FSU; not because its a “better” school, but the student body was more friendly, the school was much cleaner, and a lot of the facilities at FSU are either new or just renovated.
