Hello, I am just looking for some more last opinions/insight before I make my Final decision.

I was accepted to both schools, I do not have any strong loyalties to either school so I am open to going to either one. I am a florida resident. I am going into a Business field

FSU

pros- The biggest factor drawing me to FSU is a 9,600 scholarship(1200 a semester). Plus being accepted into their honors program I get to register for classes early and a very nice centrally located dorm. Campus wise I thought it was great, its also compact.

UF

pros- The main thing about UF, is the prestige factor and the higher rankings. Alot of people I talk about, make the argument that by going to UF it will help me with job oppurtunities and such. I did not get into the honors program so I would just be a regular student. UF is the better school, rankings wise and also harder to get in, So part of me is feeling like i should take this oppurtunity.

I felt good about my visit to FSU, as in I can see myself attending there. I have visited UF and it was also nice(im visiting again tuesday).

So I guess my overal question is, Any opinions on where i should go? and is the prestige factor actually a factor in real life? I feel like FSU HONORS might look just as good as gradating from UF. But im just trying to get som opinions, as in the may first deadline is approaching.

To be honest, no one outside of Florida with the exception of people extremely familiar with college rankings is going to have any idea which school is “better.” If I asked my average joe relatives in South Dakota or Colorado about those schools, they would probably think party schools and nothing more. That doesn’t mean that they’re not good schools, because they are. But the prestige factor between the two outside of the Southeast is pretty much nil.

I think it should really come down to which school you think is a better fit for you. They’re both good public universities that will offer similar services and career placement, they’re both getting harder to get into, and they’re both really cheap.

I’ve heard good things about both business schools, but that should be the other main factor besides the “fit.” Good luck!

I don’t think UF is much more prestigious than FSU, especially outside of Florida. Which is cheaper, and which do you like more? There’s your answer.

Thank you for the responses, and yeah I would hate to force myself to go to UF just because I am trying to please other people and go to in their opinions the “better” school.

Im actually pretty set financially, I just want to come out debt free , so if I go to Grad school I can worry about money then.

My parents did Florida Pre-paid, plus 100% tuition and some books covered by Florida Bright futures, and then the FSU 10k scholarship would be a nice addition.

Florida is one of the most overrated schools in the country. Outside of Florida, no one really sees much of a difference between these football obsessed schools.

I would go to FSU. It sounds like a great deal.

Actually vociferous, that was something that really turned me off from UF. The feeling amongst Gators and the college that they are so good, and being the “ivy of the south”. I dont think they are even close to an Ivy.

Ivy of the south?!?! HAHAHA right, that would be Duke or Vandy. Go to FSU, if you do well you can get to any good grad/professional degree program. Plus, people can talk all they want about prestige, meanwhile you can laugh your way to the bank. I would prefer to graduate with less debt.

Woah woah woah, UF calls themselves the Ivy of the South? Oh hell no.

I’d pick FSU. Sounds like a great bargain and it also sounds like where you want to be. A friend of mine is there this year and is absolutely LOVING life.

Man you guys are really making me realize where my heart is, I think FSU will be a perfect fit for me.

My sister went to FSU and is graduating this year, and my mom/grandparents want me to go to UF, but I think if Im going to be happier and grow more at FSU, thats the better place.

Plus, I dont want to go to school with elitists who are attending “the ivy of the south”

Hahaha, I was thinking the EXACT same thing. OP, good luck. You have two great options, and I hope you enjoy your time at FSU if that’s where you chose to go!

Yeah thanks for everything, and luckily my parents are really supportive of everything, they just want me to go where I feel at peace with it. My mom just wanted me to be a little closer and stuff.

Uh, yeah I will second everyone with the whole Gator Mania. My guidance counselor told me that between the College of William and Mary and UF, UF dominates in terms of prestige, selectivity, and education in a national level.

I lulz. I think my guidance counselor needs to do her research.

I don’t think the perception that U of F is academically stronger than FSU is well understood outside Florida, except for those who study the first page of the USN&WR National University rankings.
It sounds like you are ready to be happy at FSU.
This from a Gator alum.

Thanks danas, There is still a chance of UF, I am going to visit tuesday and talk with the business college. I think I will be happy at either school.

Hey none of the UF students or alumni call it the Ivy of the South. The fanbase who did not attend the school get pretty carried away with UF for some reason.

Having said that: UF does have a solid alumni base
