uf vs georgia tech (pre-med)

hello, i plan on majoring in biology at uf and georgia tech and want to know which one would be the better school to go to if the end goal is med school. i live in miami fl, and have the option of going to either school for about the same price (very cheap!) which school should i pick? i heard gt is mostly engineering students.. i'm having a hard time picking :(

I have a lot of experience in the Atlanta area, and I’ve always found the tech kids to be super nice people. But the area is VERY sketchy and not safe. Personally, I’d pick Gainesville. Not only are we a better campus experience, we also have our own nationally-ranked hospital on campus (Shands) so there’s quite a lot of opportunity for shadowing, internships, and work studies there.

Hey, I doubt you’re still deciding (or will even remember to check back), but I live in metro-Atlanta and a good percentage of the gifted kids in my school go to GA Tech. The area is definitely a little sketch, but I personally love downtown/midtown Atlanta. There’s always a ton to do and the skyline makes me feel like I’m at home. The party scene at Tech is kinda ehh. People will try to dissuade you of that and tell you that the typical Tech nerd is just a stereotype. Like all stereotypes, there are quite a few exceptions, but it became a stereotype for a reason. Honestly Tech is a great school, I’m going to UF because GA Tech would feel like I’m not leaving home, and I’d be more of a UGA girl anyway. And yes, engineering is the main focus. I’ve heard they even get their own graduation. But a biology degree from Tech with semi-good grades will get you considered at any med-school. Just be prepared to work your ass off :)
