Hey guys, I was recently admitted to both of these schools. I should have a full ride for UF (florida incentive program) but attending Georgia Tech would have me incur a full cost of attendance. I’m leaning heavily towards UF due to the scholarship, but would you say that I would get a better education from Georgia Tech and that future salary would offset the cost differential?
This is a no brainer…UF.
I assume you will be studying some form of engineering? Name of school is not as important in engineering degrees and anyway UF has a very strong engineering program. If you were receiving a full scholarship from Georgia Tech then I might lean towards it, but for full OOS cost, it is not worth it over UF.
This was my family last year. Lots of anguish over this same decision but GT will always be there for grad school! GT offered my kid lots of love and $20,000 per year ( the Provost scholarship) but their tuition has been going up at 9% each year and they give nothing for National Merit. She has done very well at UF her freshman year and just accepted an internship ( she nailed two- one for NASA and one for the Air Force Research Lab) at Marshall Space Flight Center. I think UF has been good for her. She will graduate with no debt and a nice little nest egg from the FIS. The FIS is for the entire time it takes to complete the degree program so she has it for 10 semesters! The FIS has been renamed the Benacquisto Scholarship by the way. http://www.sfa.ufl.edu/types-of-aid/scholarships/
Regarding the future salary comparison- GT is certainly the best in the south- no doubt -but again please consider grad school as your final place to make your big investment.
