I would like to know where to go to if I can't afford an OOS school. I'm not sure I will get the full ride (Cornell) scholarship for Rollins, but I know I will get a good portion anyways, so it would be much cheaper than the other schools I applied to (Yale, Princeton, etc.) But anywho, here's what I've come up with so far that I like about each school

UF:
-Tons of stuff to do
-Real college town feeling
-A lot of my friends go there
-Free tuition with Bright Futures
-3 hours away from home, so far enough yet close enough

Rollins:
-I can swim on their team
-Smaller college=more personal attention
-Really nice campus

I am going to be doing biology with a pre-med track in college. I qualify for both of their honors colleges. I know that I ultimately have to make the decision on where I want to go, but I would like some input on the advantages/disadvantages of each school. Right now I'm leaning towards Rollins since I could swim there, but I'm not sure which one would really be the best for my major. Opinions please!

What sort of student body are you looking for? Huge student body and more school spirit? Or a more intimate setting?

What about location?

Maybe you could do some overnights. I loved doing them, they really helped me decide where I wanted to go.

As far as the major, I honestly don't know. They only differences I can tell you is to start examining some of the differences between colleges and universities and decide how that will affect you.

If you like upscale stuff then rollins is the place to be. If you like football then go to uf. UF is better in academics but Rollins doesnt make you take classes over the internet and you will not have 2000 kids in a single classroom. Rollins has a great location. It is a block away from a redeo drive type street that all the big execs go to. UF has a pretty bad location. It really isnt close to anything.

So the academics are really THAT much better at UF? That's kind of the main reason I chose only these two schools in Florida, but I thought they were equally academically superior. I am going to do an overnight at Rollins, along with a scholarship weekend there, but I am also going to visit UF and might possibly do an overnight with a friend up there.

As far as location, Gainesville seems like the better college town. I've lived in the Orlando area for awhile now (45 minutes from WP), and I have to say I would not ever move back here. Really, Disney doesn't cover up how nasty (and touristy) it is here. Winter Park is really nice though, and Rollin's architecture and immediate setting is much better than UF's IMO. Next year my family is moving to Satellite Beach (3 hours from UF, 1 from Rollins) and I like the distance to UF better, since my parents won't ever be able to drop in but I can easily go home for weekends whenever.

I think the big factor for me is how much I like Rollin's swim program. Swimming is secondary for me after academics, but it will have some weight.

Any opinions on each school's bio programs?

UF is a great school to do pre-med and the Biology department is top notch. You should ask this question at the UF forum and they can give you a ton of good info.
