UF vs UCF for Computer Science

Hi everybody, I’m having a really tough time deciding between UF and UCF for computer science. I’m visiting both campuses soon and I’m going to be asking questions about their CS programs but I wanted to know what people tend to think about them.
I know that the programming team at UCF ranked number 1 in the US. They also consistently rank highly which definitely indicates great instruction. I also know that the Orlando area has great internships available and that UCF partners with companies like Lockheed Martin. I definitely want to do internships over the summer as soon as I can. I’ve also heard that UCF has great research going on in CS especially in computer vision. I’m already in honors and I want to do undergraduate research.
As for UF, I’ve heard that their research is good at artificial intelligence but I don’t really know how it compares to UCF. UF also apparently tried to eliminate their CS department a few years ago which is not a good sign as far as how seriously the university take it. I don’t know if UF would be the better choice though because they are ranked higher and have more general prestige.
I’ve already been accepted to both and the honors programs at both. I know both would be a good choice but I just want to choose wisely going in. Right now I am leaning towards UCF. Thank you everyone for helping!

My son is/was in the same dilemma. He ended up choosing UCF due to their CS dept winning those national and also ranking very well worldwide. The Provost scholarship and Honors dorm definitely sealed the deal. The fact that he could have many more local to college internships helped as well. He was recently accepted into Burnett College MEDD cohort that allows him to earn dual degrees in biomed sciences as well as engineering of his choice. Said he felt UCF valued him and proved it with the provost award and while he was auto admit to UF honors program, it is only an honors program not their own college. He was offered the uf honors admission scholarship and some undergrad research program. UCF honors tours was very impressive plus he’s not comfortable with the heavy Greek and sports feel he got from our two if tours. Good luck on your decision. It’s a big choice. I was told if he wanted to stay in Florida gator pulls some weight. He does not want to live in Florida for ever so he went where he felt most comfortable he thinks.

@Caugheyboymom what do you mean by ucf is seperate honors college?

Ucf has the Burnett Honors College which is much like a small college within the monster sized ucf. Their own advisors and building and computer labs all centrally located in center of campus. UF is an honors program. For many years they didn’t base acceptance at uf honors program on grades but on some random. Essays that were read and judged by upperclassmen. The amount of classes, including Most all general ed classes offered at UCF honors college is fabulous and being capped at 15-25 students is terrific.
