Hi

I've been considering both schools for premed because I like both of them, but I was wondering which one do you think is better? I really value being able to talk to professors, and quality of them of course, so can anyone comment on that please?

thanks

Premed is one of those things where it really doesn't matter what school you go to. Both schools are fine if you want to be premed, I really can't recommend one over the other. Decide based on where you want to live for the next 4 years and your financial aid package. Generally, for med school you want to try to do the following:

1.) Keep a high gpa.
2.) Score well on the MCAT (30 is a competitive score).
3.) Research opportunities. -Start early, the earlier you start the more responsibility that will be given to you. McKnight Brain Institute is a place I recommend you look into if you choose to come to UF. You will do real research, it's a very important thing that can set you apart from other applicants. And if you're one of the few who is able to write a paper, you're gold.
4.) Volunteer- Very easy, go to Shands Hospital, pick up the form, go to the orientation meeting and that's all you need to do. Again, start early. You will appear more devoted if you do this.
5.) Get involved with UF, specifically leadership opportunities. - Most people do this through their frat or sorority, but it's not necessary. It's easy to get involved, join a club or if you're ambitious, student government.

You probably already know this stuff from reading CC, I didn't want to insult your knowledge, but these are things that I feel are vital. Med school is extremely competitive. The bottom line is that UF or UT Austin are two schools where you can achieve these things because they have the resources and opportunities for you to do so.

The professors here are very strong, they have office hours where you can talk to them, so it's easy for you to get to know them. You just have to make the effort. If you are going to be a chem major, UF professors are top notch (as is Austin). Most of the department are from the top programs in the nation (Harvard, Berkeley, MIT, Yale, etc.). There are a few that if you do well in the course (like the best in the class), they will take you in their lab, which is a great honor.

If you have any other questions about UF, ask again or you can PM me.
