I applied as a freshman to UF and was waitlisted, so this past week I decided to call them and ask if I had a realistic chance of getting pulled from the list in case many spots open up. Shockingly, someone from the admission committee reported to me that UF doesn't plan on taking anyone from the WL this year at all ,for so far the office has been overwhelmed with letter from accepted students saying that they in fact enroll at the university and the freshmen class for 06-07 is already full. To me that is very disappointing, I also know many people who applied to UF and got waitlisted and completely abandoned any hopes and decided to go to other universities. SO, I guess if you have been waitlisted at UF, don't waste time hoping, you are better off going somewhere else...

Has anyone here been waitlisted?
If so, which university will you actually be going to?
Any surprises?

My GC told me that it is signicantly easier if you apply for the summer term. Evidently it is alot harder if you during the fall term. Also I heard that is extremly difficult if you are from out of state.

-- Apparently UF is primarily concerned with numbers and GPA this year. I actually read an article from their website saying that GPA and SAT's accounted for about 75% of their evaluation. They are definitely looking for a more sophisticated student body. Regarding my friend, he only took the SAT once and his scores were not high at all and his GPA was 90.12 or something. However, he had fantastic ECs ( really inpressive) and his two essays were very passionate. UF decided not to recognize that and the two other schools apparently did.

Yes, he was from out of state. But I also read an article from the UF newspaper that the committee wanted to add diversity to their student pool, so it is very hard to predict.

How is applying for the summer easier? DO they expect many students to transfer out of the school, or is it because classes will be unoccupied??

Does anyone know the average GPA for transfer students?
SHould I be able to transfer to UF from FSU with a 3.8~3.9 average after 1 or two years? what else would I need?
Also, will they look at my HS SAT scores? Thank you...

UF says on its transfer website that it gives preference to transfers with a AA degree from a Florida Community college.
"Florida public community college graduates who have completed a university-parallel program and an Associate of Arts degree will receive priority consideration for admission to UF if they meet the requirements for admission to their college/major. "

It may be a very good idea to go the Sante Fe CC route to UF. For transfers with less than 60 credits (junior year), they say that it is very rare and those transfers have near perfect high school GPA's and over 1400 SAT's.

"Freshman/Sophomore Applicants (Lower Division Students)
Transfer students with 13 - 59 transferable semester hours from a regionally accredited institution by the time they enter the university.

Requirements

Foreign language proficiency

Minimum of 1400 SAT or 33 ACT

Minimum 4.0 high school GPA as calculated by the University of Florida

Minimum 3.0 academic college GPA (with no deficit record at any institution)

FAQ
Lower division transfer students must have been eligible for admission as a freshman. Admission is competitive based on the above criteria and an overall review. Requirements vary depending on enrollment. Please review the Undergraduate Catalog for further information.

Important Note for Lower Division Transfers: The number of spaces available for students transferring with fewer than 60 credit hours is very limited. Few freshman/sophomore transfer applicants are accepted. The university recommends that you complete an AA degree or at least 60 semester hours before applying."

Here is the website with the transfer info:

That's true. I heard that it's harder to transfer in from an university than to transfer in from a community college. I would look into MDC's Honors program which has a good reputation.

However, according to my conversation with one of the admissions officers, the freshmen class is "bursting full" and they don't think anyone will be pulled from the waitlist since they are having problems with the "overwhelming" number of students that already enrolled by paying the deposit. I think UF should post this information on their site, for I know there must be some people on the waitlist that still have some hope of getting in...

SO, did anyone else in here got waitlisted? and, if so, where are you going?
