UF

Hi I’m a junior in an IB school in Florida. I’m really interested in the University of Florida but I’m scared I won’t get in because of my low GPA. My unweighted GPA is 3.18 and my weighted is 4.54. My PSAT score is a 1220 out of 1520. I got a 29 on the ACT (plan to retake to get at least a 32). And I haven’t taken the SATs yet because I am waiting for the new one to come out in March (goal is 1400). I have a lot of service hours and quite a few extra curricular activities. Unfortunately since I’m in the IB program, its really difficult to keep your unweighted GPA so I need to work on that so hopefully I can bring it up before I apply. I also heard that the UF SSTP summer program will help admissions so I want to apply to that but I’m also scared I won’t get in for that. Do you guys think i will get into the SSTP program and UF in the future? Any tips? Thanks

What’s your uf gpa?

UF emphasizes course rigor so I think you still have a chance, though obviously - you need your standardized test scores as high as possible (probably better than a 29 on the ACT).

I can’t remember how to calculate the UF gpa; hopefully someone will chime in with that info.

Don’t panic - just focus on things within your control (test prep comes to mind). You still have time.

Thank you!

How do i calculate that?

UF’s GPA is on a 4 point scale, but UF awards an extra +0.5 points for honor classes, and an extra 1.0 points for AP/IB/AICE/DE classes. They typically use Semester grades. Only use academic classes

For example:
Junior Year: Fall/Spring
AP Chem: B/B = 3 (for the B) +1 (for AP)/3+1 = 8 points
AP US History: A/B = 4 (for the A) +1 (AP)/3+1 = 9 points
Honors Eng: B/A = 3 (for the B) + 0.5 (Honors)/ 4 +0.5 = 8 points
Standard Spanish: B/B = 3 (for the B)/3 =6 points
PE: A/A = Not an academic class, it’s not included

(8+9+8+6) divided by 8(the number of semesters, note that we’re not including the semesters in PE) = 3.875 UF GPA

Hope this helps!

Ohh i see how it works, thank you! Do you think i have a chance of getting in? i can work on my test scores but im worried about my unweighted GPA

I would guess UF is a high match, your GPA hurts , but your EC’s, test score and essay could help. You should apply, but also plan on applying to a few other schools, including at least one safety.

Good Luck!

In regards to the UF calculation, do they use YTD transcript grades or just soft more and junior year?

@rozalonso For UF’s weighted GPA, they use 9th thru 11th grade. They don’t use senior year grades. They will use any college prep classes in 8th grade, such as Geometry.

@gator88NE. Thank you for your reply. Last question. What is the UF adjusted of the course taken was dual enrollment?

@rozalonso Dual Enrollment, AP, AICE, and IB are all +1.0 points.

@gator88NE. Thank you you’ve been most helpful.
