UFL or NEU

I'm having a hard time deciding between Florida and Northeastern. NEU has the co-op program and one of the best International Business programs in the country while at UFL I would need to take another major or create a BSIB program. I'm looking to any guidance from people over which is the better choice. For money sakes NEU is going to cost around $70,000 for years assuming I don't get any more scholarships and UFL will cost $25,000 for 4 years because of bright futures.
Thanks

dude stick to UF for undergrad and go to out of state for Grad, cause i mean seriously speaking u arent going to stick to only a BS in international Biz so ur going to have to do a MBA or something anyhow so save money now and spend later

Boston is a fabulous city, filled with interesting and active college students. Gainesville is a suburban college town with great sporting events. Both are good schools. Ask yourself, is it worth it to spend an extra $45K to spend the next four years in Boston. If so, go for it. If not, stay in Gainesville and save your money for grad school. I guess it comes down to your financial situation and what you want from your college experience.

PS-I have one kid in Boston and one in Gainesville. Both are very happy.

UF hands down, and this is coming from someone who loves boston.

I'm looking at it from a grad school perspective. If I want an MBA I'm thinking the extra 45k is worth it in the long run. I'm thinking that at NEU with the co-op experience and connections I can get a better job after college and possibly paying more because of a specialized degree. Thus I'll have more experience and a better start for one of the better MBA programs in the country vs UF which I'll just be another one of 10,000 kids graduating in my class looking for a job with no experience whatsoever.
Agree or disagree that NEU would be a better option to get into a stronger MBA program?

go to UF and if you really dislike it you can try to transfer to northeastern...unless you absolutely HAVE to move to boston

What are the benefits of UF besides cost? Everybody says to go to UF but without reasons.

well UF doesnt have that bad a biz school its ranked around 30 for undergrad soo its by far the best instate(if ur from FL), and northeastern is pretty good for international biz according to u. there are no doubt benefits of going up north because in the long term jobs are easier to get if you are in a big city already(compared to UF which is the city) and you can prob get better internships and etc but in the end its up to you because if you think that in the long term the benfit will be greater then 45K right now then hell yeh go for it

Prestige. Look at the two on the ranks... good luck finding Northeastern.

Job experience is important, but a degree from UF will take you to some of the best jobs in Florida. Try showing that Northeastern diploma down here. "Is that like Northwestern? No? Co-op? Huh?"

If you're planning on living in FL, UFL is a much stronger degree to have.

I'd like to work overseas so connections are what is most important to me. Does anybody know how easy it is to make a major and whether that's acceptable to companies or if they even know? If I could, copying NEU's program at UF and trying my damndest to do 1 or 2 co-ops could be just as good.

UF is just a flat out better school than NEU. The median SAT at UF is around 1340, whereas the median at NEU isn't even a 1250.

that's exactly the kind I answer I wasn't looking for because it's the bull that makes this website run. Statistically NEU is on the rise and getting closer to the top tier. What I do want is educated responses to how Northeastern's BSIB program is worth it or not compared to the price of UFL. Also % wise does anybody know how many B-classes at UFL are online?

You should deff. check out the page that GatorEng23 suggested. I dont know much about Northeastern but I do know that Florida does have a very very good business school. My dad went there but that was back in the 70's. I think that UF is the better deal because it is cheaper but just as good if not better than Northeastern business wise. As far as connections go, UF has a huge alumni base and study abroad programs.

And yes they offer a full degree online for business: http://www.cba.ufl.edu/upo/programs/obsba/

Hope that helps.

In regards to online classes I see that as a negative since if I'm paying for education (or room/board in the case of bright futures) then I want to go to class and be taught by a professor in person.

MANY Business classes at UF are Web. You can opt to attend the in person class where the Web class is filmed - each Web class does have a live class every semester. Some business students can get most of their credits by only showing up for tests. I see this many Web classes as a negative, but many students think it is great. I'm sure that UF is not alone in using so many WEB Business classes - if you are motivated, you can certainly go to the live classes and get involved with your professors. $25,000 sounds high for room and board (especially on campus) - Bright Futures should cover tuition and books.

$25,000 divided by four years = $6,250 for room/board/food per year

I'm visiting NEU later this month, if I fall in love or get full tuition I'll probably go there otherwise I'll go to UFL.

It seems to me that you've made up your mind before you started this thread, so why may I ask, are you asking us?

No I didn't make up my mind, I'm still rather split and 2 days ago I was about 50/50.

My daughter is a freshman in the business school at UF. When she first arrived last fall she said that she would never do the web classes. She took the live section of microeconomics but was grateful for the web section when she was sick or didn't understand something (she could replay the lecture in the privacy of her dorm room). This semester's macroeconomics class is given live at 8:30 AM. She is enrolled in that section however, most days she watches class at 10 AM online instead. She loves having that option.
