UF's MBA program ranks in Top Ten for best overall academic experience

Gainesville, Fla. – The Florida MBA program was ranked No. 6 for best overall academic experience in the 2007 Princeton Review survey of the nation’s Top Ten business schools. University of Florida is the only public school to appear on the list, and no other school based in Florida appears in any of the Top Ten listings.

In a survey of nearly 300 schools, institutions were scored between 60 and 99 in each category, with 99 being the highest. UF scored 98 in overall academic experience. This rating measures the quality of the learning environment, including factors such as GMAT scores, undergraduate grades, percent accepted, percent enrolled, and student/faculty ratio. Students also were asked to respond to questions pertaining to faculty, student peers and realization of academic expectations.

Florida also scored a 96 in the admissions selectivity category, placing it just outside of the Top Ten for that category. Besides the rankings, the UF program received highly favorable comments from students as well. The faculty is highly regarded, and the administration is viewed extremely positively. Some of the notable quotes included:

Finance “is the greatest strength of the program” at UF, where “entrepreneurship is also a rising star.”
The administration “runs the MBA program like a business…they do not lose focus of the fact that their primary customer is the student.”
“We’re extremely pleased with the results of the Princeton Review survey. To be ranked in the Top Ten in such a crucial category as overall academic experience is especially gratifying,” said Alex Sevilla, director of the Florida MBA program. “To be in the company of programs such as Wharton, Harvard and Stanford is a testament to the exceptional quality of the Florida MBA program, our faculty and our students.”

If anyone really thinks that UF is in the company of Wharton, Harvard, and Stanford then they're kidding themselves. Regardless of the Princeton Review survey, no recruiters will utter UF in the same breath as schools that are truly in the top 10.

That being said, I'm sure that if you want to stay in Florida, the UF MBA is a good degree to have.

I think that a MBA from UF is good for the entire South East.

University of Florida's MBA program is not even in the same category as Wharton, Harvard, Kellogg, Chicago or Stanford. I don't even think Florida makes it to one tier below which would be Stern, Michigan's Ross, Columbia and Cornell.

You've got to be kidding yourself if you think UF's MBA is on pa with Businessweek's Top 10.

Tell the Princeton Review ranking to any recruiter and you will get laughed at.

It's a heck of a lot better than your alma mater's MBA program.

Hey how did that brawl with FIU turn out? Lasted what 5 minutes, I hear 13 players were suspended. Go Miami!

My MBA won't be coming from my alma-mater. It will be coming from a top 5 MBA program. Thank you very much.

I don't really care where your getting your MBA. Just realize that UF's is superior to UM's. This is also the case for our medical, law, engineering, and education programs.

Just realize UF is for the people that don't drive BMWs, wear Dior sunglasses or carry Chanel handbags.

I could care less about who's MBA is better than who's. Bottom line is my MBA will be better than both and my undergrad school will not even matter after I'm successful in my career.

"Just realize UF is for the people that don't drive BMWs, wear Dior sunglasses or carry Chanel handbags"

I think that you are putting UF into the same context as Penn State, the problem with that is that you are not recognizing that alot of the most affluent southerners still send their children to public flagship universities. Clearly you have never heard of southern families that come from old money. Believe it or not, not every person living in a rural county is a low income hobo. For instance my parents own large chunks of property all throughout N. & C. Florida. You need to understand that historically in Florida alot of the most affluent families went to UF, and they will continue to send their children to their alma mater. Clearly you have limited-to-no experience with the undergrads at UF. The majority of the parents income is well over 100k a year. Their is a difference between acting flashy, and having wealth by the way. It's just different strokes, for different folks.

That maybe the case at UF. I wouldn't know.

On the other hand, when you look at price tags UM costs $42,000 per year where as UF costs below $10,000 per year I believe.

Yes, UM does give out a decent amount of financial aid. However, when you compare the price tags of the respective schools it is not hard to see that UM on average would have a wealthier population than UF due to the price tag being four times as much.

Unfortunately for UF, its reputation out of state is still not up to par with its academics and reputation in Florida.

UM suffered a huge blow due to the fight against FIU but it will not be effected in the U.S. News rankings.

The actions of an inappropriate few do not represent the student body or quality of education at the University of Miami as a whole.

Who cares how much either university costs?

Give me a break...

Disclaimer-I am currently a prof. MBA student at UF.

Having said that, you people who refuse to believe that UF is a world class MBA school, take a look at ALL of the rankings. They are top 50 or HIGHER in EVERY major ranking (the economist, US News, etc...). They are also moving up FAST and will be, I am guessing in the 30's as ranked by US News and world report next year. That would put them ABOVE schools like Boston College and on par with Wisconson, etc. The undergrad program is also moving forward and the president of the University has made a committment to make UF a top 10 public institution in the near future. The average undergrad SAT is over a 1300 and going up every year. The average GMAT score for the MBA is 675 (90% tile), higher than Cornell's average. Don't believe me? Take a look for yourself:

why would you want to fight in a virtual world where it has no affect in your lives?
UF is a good school and so is UM.
