Not bad. It's nice seeing materials always in the top 10 and tax law at 2.

SSobick, do you have the specialty rankings for "medicine research"?

Med research is usually for medical colleges that want or have most of there students doing research. Research is very important when applying to residency in specialties, not primary care. Research is a must when applying to radiation oncology, dermatology, integrated plastics, neuro, ortho, and ENT. (esp the 1st 3)

Materials is a awesome dept and have many opportunities for students, but is also one of the most underrated among students. Most will major in other engineering depts.

ASMAJ, I know what medicine research is, I was wondering what the specialty rankings were.

And yea, I agree with you, it is very underrated among students. It really is an amazing department, the faculty are top notch and have contributed so much to the field. Almost all of the students are involved with a research project. IMO it should be ranked in the top 5.

But one of the reasons it is probably overlooked is that not a lot of people are interested in materials chemistry. I mean most people wanted to just get done with 2045/2046 and move on.

UF was not ranked in any of the specialties this year. But for the 2007 edition the Geriatrics department was ranked 23rd.

Nice to see decent rankings in the humanities. I expected it in the sciences, but Florida really is a great all around school

Specialty Rank

* Digestive Disorders (22)
* Urology (22)
* Ear, Nose & Throat (25)
* Geriatrics (25)
* Kidney Disease (28)
* Pediatrics (28)
* Gynecology (32)
* Cancer (34)
* Respiratory Disorders (37)
* Heart & Heart Surgery (41)
* Neurology & Neurosurgery (44)
* Orthopedics (48)

Ah, I confused the med school specialty rankings with the hospital specialty rankings. Thanks ASMAJ.

The previous rankings were hospital-type rankings.

NIH Award Data : http://grants.nih.gov/grants/award/rank/medindp05.htm
So schools with research money in certain areas.

Anesthesiology (37)
Internal Medicine (48)
Neurology (47)
Neurosurgery (32)
OB/GYN (52)
Opthalmology (16)
Orthopedics (19)
Pathology (41)
Paediatrics (26)
Psychiatry (54)
Oncology (Diagnostic) (53)
Surgery (45)

Ranking specialties is hard because they usually goes by reputation in the medical field. I dont think there is a ranking out there based on that. I know for example UC-San Fransisco has arguable the best anesthesiology program/dept.

Wait, how does this work? Law is really 47th overall even though env is 14th and tax is 2nd?

Because there are many different areas of specialization in law and I guess the law school has a really good program in environmental law and tax law. Maybe if there were more areas that were in the top 20, the law school overall would be ranked higher. I know that UMiami is high than UF in entertainment law, but UF law is ranked high than UM law overall.

oooh ok, I thought those were all the areas at the UF law school.

UF Law went down a couple spots from last year for one particular reason. Admissions chose to get rid of Spring admissions, and to instead just have a 400 student class for the next Fall. This consiquently made our numbers not look so good. I have been assured from my friends however, that in a year or so the numbers will even out, and we should go back to where we were in a couple years.

UM actually dropped a couple of spots from last year. They are now ranked 70th

Good to see there are so many good Graduate Programs at UF.
