I heard through a teacher, respectable one, that Berkeley doesnt give below Cs.

How hard is it to do well?
I would thiink many of the difficulties arise from changing and living there etc.

What’cha hear?

I know people that have failed or gotten Ds in class, but they clearly deserved it; i.e. didn't do the work, didn't go to class, etc.

Getting a C is easy. Getting a B is a little tougher, and As are just plain rare -- but very doable.

after you come to berkeley, you will never view grades the same again, its not like high school, where if you just do whatever, you'll get an A, in berkeley, if you can get an A, its worth being really happy over.....

DMC is right, As at Cal are really an accomplishment and something to be proud of. Bs aren't anything to cry over either. Both are difficult to get and require a reasonable amount of talent and effort to recieve.

Keep in mind all classes were not created equal.

A's in say...a Women's Studies class are not going to be nearly as difficult to get as in an engineering course. So it really matters what you're studying.

lol, reassuring and funny replies!

The only thing to fear in a women studies class is the Bull-Dyke sitting next to you.

Since it's so difficult to do well, do only the best and the brightest go on to grad school? And what sort of GPA would i need to go on to a decent grad school (esp. for chem)?

I'd fear the GSI far more than the one sitting next to me ;) realizes he goes to PCU

Is there some site with like a ranking of class difficulty? I want to take some film classes but don't want to be spending all day editing some crappy film.

Our film classes are strictly critical (in other words, think a literature class with movies instead of books) with a few notable exceptions. I think some of the upper divs have you make a film, but its usually group project -- so you don't have to piece it all together by yourself.

are there any really fun classes. Like one where you go to the movies every friday to review new movies? or a television class where you watch real tv shows? etc.

math and science classes suck for grades. It's literally a "war" for the high grades in the class.
