Hi im a female OOS applicant for UGA class of 2021 and I was wondering what my chances are…Throughout high school, UGA has been a school my teachers and counselors told me I would definitely get into, but in recent years, especially this past year, I know admissions have been more selective. I love writing and am very interested in studying journalism so I intend to apply into the Grady School.
Stats:
OOS -white female
-rigorous private school
UW GPA 3.7/ W 4.45
test scores (just retook ACT and I believe I improved. Also, I am retaking the SAT Oct. 1st)
ACT:28 + writing (34)
SAT: 1310
ECS:
Tennis for school (9-12)
Youth Group Planning Committee Member (10-12)
Youth Advisor for Middle Schoolers (11,12)
Acolyte at church (9-12) --> Team Captain (11-12)
Junior Class VP (11)
Student Body Secretary (12)
Youth Corps (selective local leadership program for HS students in my city) (10)
Furman University Summer Scholars (summer after 11)
Palmetto Girls State (summer after 11)
babysitter/nanny (9-12)
intern for local magazine (9)
Costa Rica Mission Trip (11)
VBS volunteer (10,11)
–over 130 community service hours documented
Completely forgot to mention… I will have taken 8 AP courses (max you can take is 9-10) and 6 honors courses (maxed out at my school). I am also in NHS and an AP Scholar
Also, assuming that I calculated my UGA GPA correctly, I have a 3.93
You should definitely get in, I’d be surprised if you didn’t
I would not say that you will definitely get in. Because of the in-state Hope scholarship, there are so many people who apply. UGA is very hard to get into for anyone, despite the over 50% acceptance rate. You ACT score might impair your chances a little, and I do not know what SAT scores on the new test mean. However, your GPA is on par and you have a good amount of AP classes. Last year, the average UGA calculated GPA was 4.11, the average ACT was 31, and the average number of AP/IB/Honors course was 8. The number of people applying increases each year, along with average stats. Did you apply early action? If so, they will only look at rigor, test scores, and GPA. You are a very competitive candidate, but you never know with UGA. I’ve never heard of anyone being denied early action, so if you applied for that and get deferred, you will be able to complete the rest of the application and they will see your stellar extracurricular. Last year EA decisions came out the Friday before Thanksgiving, and I am guessing they will come out sometime in the next 2 weeks (though they have not announced it). Good luck!
Since this post, I have received my latest SAT scores and got a 1410. I think that should increase my chances significantly; however, I am aware that UGA is very competitive. I did apply EA @jennacwa
Good luck! I think you’re a great candidate.
@jennacwa update: I got in and got the classic scholarship!
Congratulations, that’s awesome!!! I also got admitted! Is it one of your top choices?
aww yay congrats! I really like UGA and am strongly considering it; however, I am not going to officially decide on anywhere till I hear back from all of my schools in the spring. @jennacwa
