I am very confused by what has been happening with me at UGA.
I received an email addressed to another person saying that they should apply for honors and when I responded they said that it was a mistake but that then information still applied to me, meaning I was invited to apply for honors but did not get in.
ACT: 34
GPA: 4.34
AP’s upon graduation: 11
Current Scores: 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 4
SAT Subject Tests: 740, 700, 680
People ranked lower than me in my grade (also with ISS) got auto admit and other people on here have who I have better scores than have gotten in but I haven’t. I’m confused by everything because they sent me someone else’s email and then said that it applied to me even though it wasn’t for me. I am from Atlanta, GA. Help!
@josbar Did you apply for the Foundation Fellowship? I think that is how some get in early, because honors already knows the full picture on these applicants. If you talked directly with honors, just go ahead and fill out the application, hopefully you should get in.
So if you were admitted through early action and have received no email inviting you to apply for honors does that mean you most likely got auto admit into honors? For some reason my mail from Georgia takes forever to get (I’m OOS), my acceptance letter took three weeks to arrive and I’m dying to find out haha.
@eventer88 I also received an email informing me I was accepted after I received my auto admit letter in the mail
Hey everyone!! I’m in the honors program at UGA and my sweet cousin is hoping and praying to be automatically accepted. I got my auto acceptance in mid-December of my senior year, but he hasn’t received one yet and he has higher stats than I did! Have in-state people heard about the honors program yet??
My son is in-state and did not receive an Honors auto-acceptance letter. He did receive an invitation to apply by email Dec 18. He also applied to Foundation Fellowship and Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarships, haven’t heard anything yet.
Confused!!! My daughter has better stats than those from her school and yet they were auto-selected for honors at UGA and she was not. She also did not receive the email mentioned on here that was sent in December inviting her to apply to honors, yet she was invited by invitation only to Scholars Invitation Day in the fall. She was the only one from her school invited to it. It was explained there that the kids invited to that had the stats for Ivies. She also filled out the application for the Foundation Fellowship and Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarships. Does this mean she does not have a chance to be invited to this scholarship competition. We are so confused and do not know why she was not auto selected and at the very least sent an email to apply. She has already been accepted to USC Honors College which is #1 in the nation for Honors Colleges and to other very selective colleges and honors programs. Does anyone have any insight to this? She does not want to waste her time with the Honors App for UGA if there is no hope to acceptance or to be invited to the scholarship weekend in Feb. Thanks.
Best is to call the UGA admissions office when they open tomorrow.
As an aside, SC (assume you mean South Carolina) has a good honors program, but many would probably not agree that it is the #1 in the nation.
@crazysocks72 I have the exact same problem, no emails about honors whatsoever and my mail from UGA takes over a month to arrive. Called and they said I was not auto admitted but the lady did not seem sure so I am going to call again and also make sure they have the correct email at least. I too applied for FF/Ramsey and I was told auto admittance into honors has no affect on FF/Ramsey because they are separate review processes.
My son called the Honors college and they told him he didn’t qualify for the auto admit and wasn’t in the 2% below those who qualified to be given an invitation to apply for the Honors college. This is surprising since he has a great GPA, SAT and ACT scores and was admitted EA and received a Classic Scholarship.
@RemyBrittany It is very confusing! My son is in state and was accepted EA with no scholarship, although his stats are great. Was not auto accepted into Honors but did receive email invite. I think FF/BR scholarships will be announced mid January. So we have no idea what’s going on!
@MexitalianMom That is confusing! I am hearing this is happening alot. We were wondering if maybe my son’s record/grades were somehow input incorrectly in the Honors college? My son’s friend with the same stats as him was auto accepted into Honors. Good luck to your son on upcoming scholarship announcements!
@MexitalianMom Meant to ask - is your son applying for Honors? My son just mailed in his application yesterday.
@RemyBrittany We’re waiting to hear from GaTech on Saturday. It’s his first choice, if he’s deferred or denied then he’ll apply to Honors at UGA. He wants to study Nuclear or Aerospace Engineering, which isn’t offered at UGA, ugh!! He’ll probably have to transfer next year. He’s also been accepted to Clemson and Auburn. Good luck to your son! I love Athens!! It would be fun to visit!
@MexitalianMom I hope he gets in to Georgia Tech! That’s a bummer that UGA doesn’t offer Aerospace Engineering. My youngest son (middle schooler) is also interested in that field. Great job getting accepted to Clemson and Auburn. My son was accepted to Alabama and UNC Wilmington so far. His first choice is UNC Chapel Hill. UGA is his second choice. We went to Athens twice over the Christmas break and it was gorgeous. The campus looks alot like the UNC campus.
@RemyBrittany I noticed your son was admitted into Alabama. Has he visited? My DS is a sophmore engineering major and abosolutely loves it. I love the generous scholarship money, lol. He just received a refund check today for almost $600 that was left over once they applied the Presidential and the Engineering scholarships to his spring bill. The school is not for everyone though. My DD has UGA as her first choice (as a NMSF she is giving up a lot of cash from Bama).
@FamilyofFive That’s great that your DS is loving it at Alabama. We have only been there during the Christmas break - no official tour yet. We’d like to take one in the Spring. Yes, they do give out generous money! My son also received the Presidential and Engineering scholarships. I have been very impressed with Alabama as far as their recruiting. They have sent my son so many brochures and have been so good about answering questions. UGA is very impressive too. Enjoyed walking around the campus over Christmas break.
