UGA EA Class of 2025

rejected with a 1470 :frowning: i think my sophomore year grades were too low

D admitted. But without merit scholarship, it will be hard to say yes. FSU and UF are still her front runners.

Are you like us - OOS and FSU with waiver vs. UF with no waiver? My daughter prefers UF but thatā€™s a $22K difference.

Yep. Exactly. We think FSU is a better fit for my D than UGA or UF for a lot of reasons (beside price) but sheā€™s still thinking about rankings. I keep thinking none are top 20, and a top 60 school is pretty darned good. I just want her to be happy and in a place where she can succeed.

UF is tied with Tufts UCSB and NYU. Iā€™m not a fan of relying on rankings but UF ranks very high.

Yep. Although my guess is UFā€™s rankings are helped some by research and STEM jobs after graduation. My D is thinking about marketing and hospitality management, and probably grad school after that, so maybe undergrad rankings arenā€™t so important. Also, not a big fan of online classes, and I hear UF does a lot of their business classes online. I want her to get an education, but also to have fun and not bury herself studying. I donā€™t have a sense of how hardcore UGA would be, but based on admission stats, it seems like it would be pretty brutal. Itā€™s good she has options.

Yup and the highest ranked school isnā€™t always the best school for every student. UF FSU and UGA are all amazing schools congrats to your daughter for getting in!!!

Iā€™m biased but Athens vs Gainesville would sway me to UGA.

We spent a day each at UF and FSU, and liked FSU better. Never been to Athens (not the one in Georgia, anyway :slightly_smiling_face:), and now sheā€™s in, D said she thinks she may want to visit before she decides.

Honestly, Itā€™s worth the trip to see if she fits. Itā€™s one of the top college towns and the downtown area is perfect! I live in another top college town, Boulder, and itā€™s not even close to Athens as far as college stuff. The music, restaurants, old campus, the Dawgs, etc are all exactly what 18-22 want.

UF and FSU are great too. My sister went to FSU, and Tallahassee is fun. Itā€™s also close to my favorite Florida beaches.

In the end, it could be a school not ranked - like my daughter loves U of SC - ranked under 100 and College of Charlestonā€¦not ranked at all.

You have to spend four years there.

If you are in name any city and you went to Colorado, Nebraska, Central Michigan, or Florida - no one will care. People put way too much emphasis. Yeah, itā€™s great Florida is 30 - but itā€™s closer to FSU then Harvard. And even at Harvard there are no guarantees.

My son is an engineer at Bamaā€¦heā€™s interning this Summer - heā€™s in a co hort with two Ga Tech and a U of Houston. Ga Tech is the Harvard of engineeringā€¦yet heā€™s in the same job.

So FSU or UF will be fine - outside of Florida, few have UF on a pedestal.

Agree and outside the world of college confidential big state school equals big state school for many. Most people and most employers donā€™t know anything about current rankings. If anything they will ask you why you went there if it is not your home state. There are of course exceptions but for the most part that is true.

Well, better late than never, I guess. D21 was admitted today after being deferred EA back in November. That was the first decision she got and it really rocked her self-confidence, but she rebounded and now has a lot of good options. Congratulations to everyone that got in!

Same thing for our D21ā€¦ she was so low after the deferral. She was accepted today however now she has many wonderful options and is going to attend different school with a scholarship and Honors College admittance. It all worked out! Good Luck to everyone!

Where did she choose?

Did anyone else get accepted here but waitlisted at Clemson?? lol

We are in the same boat with my D21. However, she was rejected by UGA, but accepted to UF (no $$), FSU (full OOS tuition waiver), Clemson (full OOS tuition waiver). We are from GA, so we wonā€™t pay for UF OOS. My daughter is having a hard time choosing between FSU and Clemson. Cost is practically the same. Does anyone have any advice as to those two schools? She wants to major in graphic communications or marketing. Thanks!

No advice but when did you hear about Clemson merit? My son got in in November and we have been waiting since!

Have you visited both campuses? We keep telling my D they are all good schools and she should love where sheā€™s going to live for 4 years. My D liked FSUā€™s campus and location more than Clemson (or UF), but we havenā€™t even seen UGA yet.
