Accepted! OOS Texas - 3.9 uw/4.87 w, Varsity Lacrosse Captain x2 years, NHS, Boys State Delegate, Hugh O’Brien Outstanding Sophomore delegate, work 12-20hrs/wk, YMSL. Good luck to everyone.

I’m really surprised my son was deferred. OOS Texas, 1580 SAT, NMSF, AP Scholar with Distinction, 13 APs, All State band, success in other extracurriculars including speech, great essays and I believe strong rec letters. Weakness is likely his GPA, 3.6 UW, over 4.0 UGA recalculated with the AP weight. At least he’s already sitting on an acceptance from Iowa with a scholarship offer, so that helps lessen the sting. Congrats to everyone who got good news today!

Congrats all! Son accepted. OOS-Virginia. GPA 4.1, ACT 33, 9 AP classes.

Deferred:
In-state
3.85uw/4.25w
33 act, 34 superscored
5 AP classes
EC: varsity rowing, a couple honor societies, orchestra all 4 years, babysitting job
Dont know if this will help anyone, but I think the biggest factor for UGA early action is your UGA gpa and the number of AP classes you took.
Congrats to everyone who got in!

My daughter’s stats:

My OOS Daughter was accepted today:
4.0 u/w, 4.54 weighted (I have no idea how to calculate UGA gpa)

9 AP classes the rest honors
3 sport varsity athlete and USTA tennis player- regionally ranked

Lots of community service in school and town wide

Having trouble not taking this personally. High A’s every class. Took every honors and DE course possible. School doesn’t offer APs. Varsity sports all years, volunteer work, inter scholastic competitions. Decent ACT score of 32, even higher without Science. Deferred. Sucks.

I think based on the blog schools like yours are why they defer so many because of short turn around. They need time to delve into the details, which they don’t have. I think chances are good you would get in.

Some pretty amazing kids on this thread have also been deferred. This process is where the flaw lies, not you. Congrats on your great achievements in hs. One decision made in 5 weeks for one in 20k applicants doesn’t take that from you.

Accepted EA!!!

3.1uw
4.4/6 weighted

didn’t submit an SAT score just bc this wasn’t a top choice and i wanted to see if my grades and the rest of my application were enough

IB diploma candidate and 6 APs

political centered ec’s and my own business

posting this for anyone that is below the threshold. GRADES AREN’T EVERYTHING PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS REMEMBER THIS. also I am OOS

So many students from our area get deferred initially and then get in later. Best of luck to you. I think you have a fantastic chance to get in during the spring.

@Culbreath That surprises me too. A couple of the comments in this thread don’t make sense in terms of gpa and scores, unless someone has a hook we don’t know about. In your case, I think UGA really hates to see B’s in the raw grades, regardless of rigor, which is unfortunate. It seems like they’d rather someone have an A in an easy class than a B in a harder class, which I personally disagree with, but it is what it is. I’m quite certain your son will have a lot of great offers to choose from in the coming months, he has a very strong application.

Don’t worry @Facepalmwarrior! I honestly believe that deferral will turn around for you with your wonderful stats! I read on the UGA blog that they saw a 28% increase in applications for EA this year due to being 1st year on the Common App! I’m quite sure you will get your well-deserved seat (just a bit of patience)!
