Eg, McKinsey, Bain, BCG, Deloitte consulting
Not true for the consulting firms if you have the GPA any more. Nobody is going to turn down a 4.0 resume in favor of a honors student with a 3.5. They donât filter out for honors only any more and havenât for a while from what I understand.
Do you have a student currently at UGA or is your child applying? My DD is a recent honors grad, has interned with MBB, and helped with recruiting for her firm. She also attended on-campus recruiting events for another MBB. Only honors students were invited to the recruiting events. Every student who went to MBB last year except for one who had a high level referral (and all 4 years she was there) was in honors. The few that werenât Fellows were in Corsair (an honors program org). We arenât talking about the difference between a 3.5 honors student and a 4.0 non-honors student. Weâre talking about 3.8+ very accomplished honors students. Those are the ones that are successful recruiting for these types of companies. They are also the ones winning the grad fellowships (non-honors arenât even being considered for these). Donât believe everything you hear.
Chance me for Honors: 35 ACT superscored (35 english, 34 math), 4.13 UGA GPA, good ECs and awards in my opinion, solid letter of rec from my math teacher who knows me well. I applied yesterday for Morehead.
In- State- Accepted
28 ACT, 4.3 GPA, 14 APs
I have a freshman at UGA. 35 ACT, 3.98 unweighted GPA (1 B+ in 9th grade), admitted early to UGA but not accepted into the honors college. Last yearâs honors college admissions were very different than in years past at our school. Generally those at the very top of the class at his school are admitted to the honors college, but last year that was not the case.
I do know that working at a bulge bracket bank is a pretty hard thing to do coming from UGA and historically that is the draw for many interested in that possibility to head to Georgia Tech instead. Although it is not anything my son has shown any interest in, we were given the impression by our Terry tour guide that honors admission doesnât make much of an impact on job possibilities, but you just might have to pound the pavement a little more. Personal connections also play in I am sure.
If what you say is true, and I donât have any reason to believe it is not, sounds like Terry has some work to do. Seems to me that interviews for internships should be based on oneâs UGA rĂ©sumĂ©, given the drastic difference in rigor of high schools of admitted students, since all are on a level playing field.
My son had the same stats last year except a 35 in math and was not admitted to the honors college. Last year was test optional though and quite a few test optional kids were auto admitted so that may have thrown the stats off a bit. Good luck!
Congratulations to all. My son, oos, was admitted with well over a 4.0 Georgia gpa (not a B on his transcripts) 35 act and 7 or 8 APs, scoring all 4âs and 5âs. He was confused as to why he didnât get auto admit to honors when some of his classmates did with the same stats. Heâs fine with it, just a little confused.
What was her ACT score
Also, if deferred when will they get a decision typically?
Last year, deferral decisions came out at the end of March.
@Swaxldog Students admitted w/o Honors can apply into the Honors program by Feb. 1.
UGA says they only look at Math and English on ACT so he might have had a lower score in one of those.
Does anyone know when scholarships will be released?
Mid/late December.
I guess, 33 and 34
The initial wave of scholarship offers for UGA EA admits will be released late afternoon on 12/17, and an email will be sent to students who are offered one to check their status page. This is only our initial offers, as we will make many more through late March/early April.
(Dr. Graves just posted on Twitter)
I donât think weâve filled separate applications for any scholarships. Did we miss something? My daughter was auto accepted in to honors program.
I think, Foundation fellow scholarship needs separate application along with EA application
Yes, I believe that is the only scholarship that needs an application? May be wrong on that but think so. That is the full ride scholarship, akin to the Jefferson or the Morehead. The rest I think are given based on strength of application.
