UGA Foundation Fellows 2018-2019

Hi :

I’d like to discuss the Foundation Fellows for UGA this year. Could someone tell me what the application looks like? I can’t access it until I apply to the University. I am not sure if I am a good candidate or have good ideas for the essays, so could someone say what the prompts are and what you have to do to apply for just the scholarship?

I believe that your admissions officer can send you the link to the application if he/she believes you can qualify. You need to apply early action first. My D is in the FFR program and it is truly awesome. Good luck!

UGa Foundation Fellows is among the most selective group of honors students in the country. Before the recent rescoring of the SAT (which inflated scores), UGA Foundation Fellows average SAT score exceeded the average SAT score of all 8 Ivy League Schools. But it is not just a numbers based selection process.

Good luck !

from the Scholarship link: Who is eligible to apply?
Applicants must be current high schools seniors with an un-weighted high school GPA of at least a 3.9 and a minimum new SAT (SAT-R) score of 1460 or ACT score of 33. The essays are very important. The faculty clearly went over them thoroughly, and asked detailed questions. I don’t know if you are supposed to reveal the essay topics, because it seems that they reuse them. I could ask. You also need a thorough resume with honors and extracurriculars.

@helpfulandtrying Thank you for your response. Could you see if you could find out/reveal the essay topics for this year? My application to UGA is currently having issues so I won’t be able to access the FF application yet. Thanks.

Does anyone know about the GPA calculation…i know it says an unweighted 3.9.

Sounds simple enough, but…how do you calculate that?

Do you include all courses taken including electives or do you just include the main core academic courses?

Also, do you know how they round? My D has a 3.86. Does that count as rounded up 3.9?

Have a look at http://ugaadmissions.blogspot.com/2013/11/calculating-uga-gpa.html

And no- I’m sorry they would not round her GPA.

BUT, if she is that close I would encourage her to apply or reach out to the fellowship office with any further questions.

The average CORE GPA for first year students at UGA is 3.97-4.21. The Foundation Fellow and Ramsey scholars would typically have higher GPA’s than that. The average GPA for honors students is indicated as 4.12 .

Do you guys know when we’ll hear if we’re invited to the interview weekend?

You should probably learn by mid-January. My D learned that she was invited to interview weekend by the end of the second week in January.

Is January 11th a possible date for hearing about invitations?

It took me a bit to find when my daughter found out, 01/12/2016 4:58 PM.
So, I am guessing that it will be soon.

Email just came, rejected

I am fortunate to have been chosen as a finalist. However, I have a very difficult decision to make due to conflicts with interview weekends at other universities. Could any current Foundation Fellows people tell me more about their experience?

My D had the same decision as you, however, she decided to go to the UGA interview weekend because she was guaranteed to get a great scholarship just for showing up and UGA was a top choice. Unfortunately, you will need to determine where UGA is ranked on your list and if it is worth passing up. The Foundation Fellowship and Ramsey scholarships (FFR) are wonderful and the recipients receive a lot of benefits, aside from the funds. The scholarship programs have been in effect for many years and there are a lot of legacies around the country and the world that will support you and provide internships, jobs and research opportunities. Congrats to you on your achievement and good luck with your decision!

My d had the same decision to make. She went to the FF interview and was thrilled to get the Fellowship. It is a personal decision and as @meritaided commented you need to rank your choices.

Congrats on have amazing opportunities!
