<p>My D2 was accepted EA to UGA. In the letter that she received yesterday it said tha she should register for housing asap for the best chance of getting her requested dorm. We will not have a chance to visit until March but she is going to go ahead and register based on what we have read. She wants the typical freshman party experience, so it looks like Russell and Creswell would be her top two choices but which is better. Is the hill to get to Russell really steep and is it much further from classes, dining hall? And in Creswell, what is the Living/Learning Community like? </p>
<p>It says that you need to enter your top three choices. For 3rd choice she REALLY doesn't want all girls dorm (Brumby) but is it worth it to live there just to be close to the majority of other freshmen? What other dorms would be very social and have a large percentage of freshmen?</p>
<p>And last question.. she has no idea of a roommate yet as she is out of state. Is there a facebook group to find roommates? And can she register for housing now and then add her roommate request later?</p>

He ended up with potluck, which also turned out fine.</p>
<p>Honestly, if she isn’t going to be in a sorority, I would stay away from Brumby. The walk is too far. The Hill community dorms are also mostly freshman and are a good alternative, but I think they’re a bit more expensive.</p>
<p>The walk from Russell to Creswell is literally 2 minutes, and what I have experienced, the two are pretty much interchangeable. They are both very close to a dining hall (Bolton) which is convenient, but kind of far from classes. </p>
<p>Brumby is actually going co-ed next year (I’m a current student and have found this out), so she could put it down still. </p>
<p>Definitely stick with these though if she wants the “party dorms.” </p>
<p>As far as roommates go, I would recommend the Dawg House or joining a Facebook group for the Class of 2017 (if there is one yet). Do not go random-that typically does not work out well.</p>
<p>Brown Hall will also be a new undergraduate housing facility starting 2013(located on the health science campus). Anna is right about Brumby going co-ed. One floor will be designated as all girls and the other floor all guys. The high-rises tend to be the most social.</p>

<p>If your D2 was smart enough to get accepted into UGA then she will be smart enough to balance out studies and having fun. It’s really major dependent, but don’t underestimate university level courses. </p>
<p>It’s really sad that a party experience is considered ‘typical’ in our country. I really hope UGA’s onward push for a more professional and selective student body continues to throttle this perception. More Rhode Scholars, doctors and CEOs and less DUI arrests!</p>

<p>Freshman here and honestly I would say O-house. If she wants the “typical freshman party expierence” she’s going to overshoot by going to the #1 party school in the country and making her first priority looking for parties. Anyone, anywhere on this campus will be more than satisified with the party scene and will have the option to party whenever they want no problems. </p>
<p>Now for why Ohouse. We have private bathrooms, they’re doing renovations over the summer here too, we’re connected to what is now the second best dinning hall next to east campus village, we’re on lumpkin street, we’re much closer to South campus if she has classes there, we’re still a high rise and still very social, almost all of the students in Ohouse got in early action and many are in honors (It’s high demand housing) so she’ll be around students more her caliber. We have a bus stop literally right out the front door. We’re not known for partying so if she does decide to party hard she’s less likely to get arrested as they don’t look for it as much at Ohouse. OUR ROOMS ARE BIGGER!, Co-ed halls so she won’t get annoyed living with all girls, better parking. Also I have friends currently in Russell and they complain that the partying gets ridiculous at times and their neighbors often wake them up at 5am on week days drinking. </p>

<p>Hey, I was admitted EA and I’m trying to register for housing. Myers Hall is my top choice because I was admitted into honors, but I’m having a hard time choosing the other two. I’ll be starting my major second semester because I only have 3 core classes left, so I need to be as close to South Campus (Aderhold Hall) as possible.</p>
<p>I really like both Mary Lyndon and Rutherford, but if I won’t be in their learning community, how likely is it that I’ll be placed there?</p>
<p>I like Oglethorpe for it’s dorms, but not so much it location. Any thoughts on it?</p>
<p>On the registration form, it suggests choosing 1 all freshman dorm. I really don’t want to go in one of the high rises, so I guess that leaves me the hill community or Morris? Any suggestions on those?</p>

<p>Here is a quick roundup of new housing options…at least last I’ve heard</p>
<p>Brown Hall will be open to undergraduates starting fall 2013. Brown Hall is located on the Health Science Campus</p>
<p>Brumby will become coed to keep up with demand for housing. The floors will be designated male or female</p>
<p>Rutherford Hall will be opening in the fall of 2013.</p>
<p>A new dining hall expected to replace Bolton is currently being built. I think they said it will be opening in 2014, spring or summer I’m not sure.</p>
<p>I work as a D.A. (Desk Assistant) at Russell Hall, and the residents seem very happy to live here. I can rest assure that all of the ones that take on the “typical freshman party experience” are content with their decisions to live here. It is a high-rise community, just like Creswell, and yes, they are literally across the street from each other. In fact, I am at work right now, and can see Creswell from the front desk…the location of the Hill Community residence halls are all in a very small cluster located near north campus (i.e. “Downtown”). I really don’t know what else to say that the other posts don’t already cover, so if you have any question(s) about residence life, residence halls, specifics about Russell, etc., then feel free to ask away!</p>
<p>Kind of hijacking this forum, but as a prospective transfer sophomore student who will have to live on campus, would I be allowed to live in Russell or Creswell? I’m confused as to if they are Freshman dorms, or “First Year” dorms.</p>
<p>Russell and Creswell are geared toward first-year freshmen students; however, there are no limitations other students. So, you could very well live in either of them in all actuality. In fact, the roster that is sitting beside me happens to have a number of sophomores just on the first couple of pages. I have seen more upperclassmen on this list than on last year’s.
