Uga gpa?

OK I am confused with this. I understand that UGA does their GPA on a 4 scale with a .5 extra bonus per semester of an AP class, but do they calculate it the same way as hope? I just read somewhere that it is like a slightly altered hope gpa. The reason I am asking this is because I was able to recieve HS credit for two classes in 8th grade, but I made B's in them. They have definitely hurt my GPA. Would a UGA gpa count them? And if they do, would you think an admissions officer would consider the fact that I was an 8th grade student when I took them?

UGA will count all academic classes on your GPA. Your classes you took in 8th grade will count as they will for hope. Hope only considers your unweighted GPA; therefore, it does not matter what classes you took. It won’t matter if you took AP classes or not for hope.

hope does not count 8th grade high school credits. look at #6.

Hope also adds .5 credit to each AP class, with a maximum of 4.0 per class - meaning if you have an A in the class, you don’t get any extra credit, but you do if you have a B or below.

Thank you I did not know that. I qualify for Zell miller now! Does anybody know of UGA will count the points from my 8th grade year?

Just in case anyone else had the same question I did, I emailed an admissions counselor and she said they only look at the classes taken from 9th-12th.

Did you tell her the classes were for high school credit and count towards your graduation?

yep, i did. She said that they still only look at grades earned in actual high school years.

As a fellow Georgian that’s good to know, thanks!

If the classes appear on your high school transcript - then It is my understanding they will be included in both Hope and UGA GPA.

For my 2012 graduate of a Georgia public high school, the high school classes taken in 8th grade appeared on the high school transcript, but only with a pass indication. No grade. Thus the student gets the credit for having passed the course, but it does not contribute to GPA.

Weatherga-That is exactly what the admission counselor told me. It’s good to hear proof that backs up what she said!

Look at your gacollege411 account. It will show all your grades and you will know your Hope/Zell Miller GPA calculation.
