I am a senior in Georgia who is trying to decide between the two schools mentioned above. I qualify for the Zell Miller Scholarship in Georgia but also the Regents Gold Scholarship at Baylor because I am a National Merit Scholar, so the price of both would be about the same. Baylor has shown more interest in me by far, but UGA seems to be a slightly better school academically. The distance to UGA is much more ideal, but I like the fact that Baylor is a Christian school. Finally, I am leaning toward an economics and poly sci double major, but I am mostly undecided. Can anyone offer some advice? It would be much appreciated!

“UGA seems to be a slightly better school academically”

Outrageously false statement. Baylor is more popular but both are on the same academic level. Baylor might be better because its more selective. Baylor is known for sciences but UGA isn’t known for anything. If both cost the same, attend Baylor.

Do not listen to what XtremePower is saying. If you look at his history of posts, all he does is bash UGA, which by any overall measure is in fact a better school academically then Baylor

I obviously have bias since my brother is going to Baylor next year, but both are great schools. I don’t know very much about UGA, but I do know quite a bit about Baylor. Have you had a chance to visit the Baylor campus yet?

Have you researched the requirements for the honors program?

Not a factor at all. Its just a marketing campaign. And in fact I’d bet that all the mail you’ve received from them was actually generated by a 3rd-party marketing firm hired to manage their applicants, then robo-signed by the dean or whomever. If they’ve invited you to special events and the like, again, just part of the marketing.

I’d go with UGA, Baylor’ reputation is greatly diminished once you leave the south.

UGA has a much, much stronger reputation than Baylor (except in Dallas and Waco maybe)- especially the UGA Honors program. This isn’t much of a choice, in my opinion.

Thanks for everyone’s input!

@johnstucky I did get to visit it once last year. I like the campus at both schools, but Athens seems like a better city than Waco, to be honest. We’re taking another visit to Baylor in a week.

@FlyMeToTheMoon I have. Baylor has four different programs that can be mixed, while UGA’s is a more traditional honors college that mostly involves getting honors credits and maintaining a 3.? GPA. I have seen UGA’s near the top of most honors college rankings I have found. I’m not too worried about being able to maintain honors status, although maybe I should be. Do you have any experience with them?

@mikemac It’s not that. It’s just that I have been denied multiple scholarships at UGA (despite a 1600 SAT 2 part, great grades and plenty of extracurriculars) while being offered Baylor’s highest scholarship. I think Baylor puts more emphasis on academic achievement, whereas UGA is more interested in “diversity.”
