I was wondering if anyone here would be okay with sharing the stats that got them either half or full out of state fee waiver at Georgia.
Wondering this as well
UGA merit scholarships (they come with an OOS fee waiver) are typically going to go to students who qualify for the honors program, and you can look up honors program stats on the website. They are quite high. And it’s more than just numbers. They evaluate the strength of each student’s application. My D is a non-resident Foundation Fellow. She received one of the small scholarships with OOS waiver prior to being selected to compete for the Foundation Fellowship.
If your ACT is a 29 (as indicated elsewhere), UGA admission is a big reach for you.
My son is currently a sophomore at uga. Upon admittance, he had a 4.3 gpa and 34 ACT. He was an auto admit to the honors program. Unfortunately though, he did not receive the oos waiver. He did receive a scholarship for a little less than $10.000 a year. My son is loving his experience at UGA! Best of luck to all of you applying!
I don’t know that I would consider a 29 a “big reach” for admittance to UGA given that the Common Data Set from last year has the middle 50% as 27-32. Maybe a reach for Early Action. Also depends on GPA as well.
You were looking at high school class of 2018. High school class of 2018 stats were 29-33 ACT. Average ACT was 31. It gets more competitive each year.
^ oops 2019
UGA’s middle 50 is a 29-33… would not consider that a “HUGE” reach
Semantics. It’s a reach. Bottom 25%ile is filled with athletes and students going into easier majors like education.
Correct- its a reach. Remember that UGA takea all Vals and Sals from instate. This was 5% of last year’s entering class (and their SAT/ACT did not matter, so if they had weak scores this could pull down the stats a bit for middle 50th %ile). Also, only 15% of this current year’s entering class was from OOS (thats not # admited, just # attending)

But, they are clear that they care more about grades and rigor than standardized test scores. What are your grades (is the 3.9 weighted or unweighted?) and rigor?
I would not consider a 45% acceptance extremely competitive by any stretch. and usually all the statistics you see posted by schools (ie. Common Data set) are for fall statistics for entering freshmen. So when someone says a majority of the bottom 25% of the mid range are athletes are completely wrong. 90% of athletes enroll in the summer so their stats are not reflected in the common data set…
Applications Received: 29,308
Applicants Admitted: 13,225
New First-Year Students Enrolled: 5,515
Source?
@ShrimpBurrito I don’t need a source. That’s just how it works. They get the kids in over the summer to start on their training. It might be closer to 95%. If you follow any football or basketball recruiting you would know this. It’s all part of the process of being a D1 recruit.
@jhmoney is correct. I am also in agreement that a 29 ACT is NOT a reach. I would say that is within the target range. UGA is pretty much stats driven during the EA rounds. Test scores are super scored with an emphasis on the English and Match sections of the ACT as well as Rigor and GPA.
The OP is asking about getting half or full OOS tuition. Thats is extremely unlikely. And while we dont know what the OP’s transcript looks like and if the GPA listed is W/UW, I’ll bet the best they will get in the EA round is a deferral.
A 29 ACT score is within reach of acceptance. However, these scores are not high enough for any OOS waivers.
A score at the 25th%ile at any school is the very definition of a reach. I don’t even know why anyone is debating this. Furthermore, merit isn’t happening.
As for sports, they are training but they aren’t taking courses to my knowledge. Athlete stats are not excluded from fall enrollment stats. That’s a new claim without any support.
Would still like clarification if the GPA the OP shared is weighted or unweighted. But the OP hasn’t logged onto the site in almost a week.
@itsgettingreal17 absolutely 100% enrolled and taking classes. You are not able to be on campus living in a dorm with out taking classes. So
Like I said they are not counted in the statistics. That is commonly known…Just like those early entries in football during the spring. They are enrolled students taking classes and training
