UGA Vs. UNC culture

I have narrowed my choice of colleges down to UGA Honors college and UNC. I like both of the schools a lot and I am having trouble choosing between them. I am from Georgia and don’t mind being close to home (I live in Athens). Also money isn’t really an issue for UNC. I feel like the schools are pretty similar, but I know there are some differences. I am happy to go to either one of them academically, but I want to get some perspective on how the cultures of the schools are different and unique because that is kind of what it is coming down to for me. Any insight would be great, thank you.

Both are their states’ respective flagship universities. UNC is better ranked and slightly more “prestigious” and is regarded as a top 5 public IVY. UGA, while great is not. Football vs Basketball is another difference if that even matters. Athens is cool and Chapel Hill is one of the best college towns you can get. RTP area is better than UGA outside area. If you had to choose, I would go UNC Chapel Hill due to its better ranking and better academic standing.

I would pick UGA as it can be difficult to get classes and the cost is so much less. Personally I prefer Athens to Chapel Hill putting that aside.

UGA Honors College is a great opportunity. But it may depend upon your major as to which school is better for you.

SEC football is more intense than ACC football, but ACC basketball is outstanding.

I believe that UGA has a higher percentage of students involved in Greek life.

Tough choice since you have the Honors College at Georgia. UNC offers the research triangle & interesting universities within a reasonable distance (Duke & NC State).

Might be good to get away from home town for college, but UGA Honors College is hard to pass up.
