UGA

Say you have a dream school, mine is the University of Georgia… Could a school like UGA possibly give me a chance if I can only get to a 1700 on my SATS and a 3.75 GPA? Would they also take into consideration that I’m not a good test taker but I am willing to work hard at that school?

Looks like GPA fits but there is work to do on your standardized tests. Would work with a tutor and take LOTS of practice tests. Otherwise, UGA is a reach.
We live in the West, UGA has been getting a lot of attention from high school students here for the last few years because there is not a OOS penalty like at UVA & UNC.

UGA stats:
Middle 50% of All Enrolled First-Year Students: 3.8 - 4.0
Overall Average of All Enrolled First-Year Students: 3.9
SAT-I Middle 50% of Admitted First-Year Students: 1800 - 2060
Overall ACT Average for Admitted First-Year Students: 30

What do you mean by an out of state penalty?

Sorry, I should have written the sentence more clearly. Since out-of-state students are capped (by agreement) for UVA and (by law) for UNC, admissions for OOS students is difficult as compared to in-state applicants in VA & NC (i.e. the OOS penalty). UGA does not differentiate between in-state and OOS students for admissions purposes. You are within reach and your passion will no doubt push you over the finish line.

My friend Victor is a junior and his GPA is 3.6 and his goal is to bring it up to a 3.8 by the end of the year. He hasn’t taken his SATs yet but his goal score is 1700. He is part of the varsity baseball and wrestling team and was nominated for the best baseball player in the shore conference. He does a lot of community service and he isvery involved with school clubs. What are his chances at La salle University, University of Central Florida, and University of Tampa?
