UGA's reputation over time

There has not yet been any supporting doucumentation that I’ve seen in any of the posts. Numbers thrown out as if affirmed, but not.

Heres a list of recruiters that come to the GA Tech Job Fair. Even when you put in MBA, only 3 financial houses show up on the list- the FDIC, Capital One Financial and BB&T. Oh, and the IRS. https://gatech-cfm.symplicity.com/events/students.php</a> Yes, its a well attended job fair. But not a financial institution powerhouse as was implied above.

Then it’s wrong. Off the top of my head, the CEO of Walmart is a Fortune 500 CEO.

ETA: Norfolk Southern, Coca-Cola Enterprises, and ADP CEOs are GT alumni. Also, throw in the Chairmen of the Boards/CEO Emeritus of AT&T, Apple, Sears, Suntrust, American Express, among others.

Goldman Sachs hired 3 GT undergraduate students last year. Here’s a Bloomberg article about GS and Google competing for recruits at GT (it’s a little old, but it’s only gotten hotter since then [Goldman Meets Match in Googleplex When Recruiting Graduates - Bloomberg](<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?))

And you know that banks and MGT consulting companies don’t go to career fairs. The idea is that if you don’t know about them already, you’re not serious about the field.

Other banks that hired from GT last year specifically for M&A: Merril Lynch, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, UBS (80% of the Bulge Bracket). Others were on campus but did not necessarily hire. As far as consulting, McKinsey, Bain, and BCG all hired undergraduates from Tech last year.

How many of those companies hired from UGA? Literally none.

Michael Duke looke like hes in a bit of hot water with the feds [Wal-Mart CEO Mike Duke at risk in bribery allegations - The Term Sheet: Fortune’s deals blog Term Sheet](http://finance.fortune.cnn.com/2012/04/23/wal-mart-ceo-bribery-risk/)

Still waiting for some data to support the comments/figures thrown around earlier. So what if a finance company hired a handful of grads. As we said, Tech is an ok school, but its not such a powerhouse. You may feel free to think so. That is your perogative.

Really? MIT has financial institutions and consulting companies at their job fair . Even McKinsey is there. [MIT Career Fair 2012](http://career-fair.mit.edu/company_all.php)

Yes, really. MIT (and a few other schools) are a separate beast because to recruit on campus you must be at the career fair. Similarly, to sponsor any sort of recruiting, you pay into a pool. GT, and most other schools, have separate events directed at industries such as consulting and banking. You do not pay into a general fund to attend but rather sponsor that specific fund.

Specifically for consultant, GT has the consulting career expo. See a picture here (<a href=“gtucc.com - gtucc Resources and Information.”>gtucc.com - gtucc Resources and Information.) with McKinsey presenting last fall, even though they’re not on the Career Fair list.

My s has sat at a booth at the Tech job fair. I repeat. Tech is a fine school. Its ok. Its just not the powerhouse you want to believe it to be. Enough said. Good day to you.

And what proof do you want of the figures? GT publishes their graduate survey, UGA does not. The only place to find UGA data, which I’ve told you over and over, is Businessweek, which only has data for business schools.

Self reported by UGA to BusinessWeek:
UGA Undergraduate business 2011:
Accepted first job offer by graduation : 44 %
Median Salary: $45,000

Self reported by GT on its website:
GT Undergraduate management 2011:
Accepted first job offer by graduation : 82 %
Median Salary: $60,000

So that makes your “s” authoritative on the matter? I’ve sat in meetings where top Fortune 500 companies have made the decisions on what school to attend. GT is a national power house, and UGA is a regional school.

Whoopdee doo. Never said anything about authoritative. No need to be so obnoxious. Just saying that he has represented his previous employer. I have plenty of contacts with fortune 100 companies so your “meetings” are not impressive. Thats irrelevant. And this is not about UGA. I have no affiliation with UGA. Point is merely that Tech is NOT the powerhouse you want to believe it is. But thats your belief system. You just keep thinking that. Now goodbye.

So we’re in agreement that UGA is a regional school with a poor national reputation, and that students who choose to attend that school over a more prestigious school, on average, will have fewer career opportunities and a lower earning potential?

Nice try, but nope, we are not in agreement on any of your comments. But I’ve had about enough of your silly wordgames. Feel free to get your last word in as is your desire.

** But please have the courtesy not to put words in my mouth that I did not say or try to ascribe things to me that are inaccurate.

Jym626, Thanks for trying to go up against BanjoHitter. There is no hope of him stopping his posts unless we stop ours…he has to have the last hurrah. Let’s agree to quit so that I won’t have to see anymore of his obnoxious boxed quotes. Thanks for trying.

Thanks for the kind words, helpfulandtrying. It was a waste of time and bandwith.

There’s no “last hurrah”. Look at the numbers posted three posts above and explain them without insulting others.

BH: You still have not answered any of my questions, even after being prompted over 3 times, so any responses of yours should be held in question.

How many people actually want to become CEO’s? How many people are CEO’s in the Fortune 500, well, hmm let me think, only 500 out of millions of other college students. There are many other job fields where people don’t care what school you went to as long as you did well, work hard, interview well, etc. Most professions that involve graduate school often don’t look at what undergraduate school you went to, just what graduate school you went to. You hear about top law firms in NYC hiring from Harvard, that means graduate school. Plenty of people went to Harvard grad from random schools you’ve never heard of, and public universities.
I love that you included GT and UVA in a list such as Harvard, MIT, Stanford. They may be pretty good, but nowhere near the quality of the other schools you listed. GT is where nerdy science/math kids that couldn’t get into Rose-Hulman, RIT, MIT, etc.

GT is where the CEO of Walmart and former President went. UGA has…well…I’ll check Wikipedia and get back to you guys.

I guess Ryan Seacrest is half bad…lol

Right. This guy. http://www.usstockmarket.tv/finance-blog/2012/04/wal-mart-ceo-mike-duke-at-risk-in-bribery-allegations/</a>
