Ugh, I don't want to wait anymore

The time between november 30th and march 1rst seems to have gone by in a lightning speed when compared to the last five days since Riverside has sent out acceptance letters.

So because of this I feel the need to ask people to chance me.

so i have already gotten into UCR but i want to know my chances for the other UC's

My UC GPA is a 3.67
The only B's I got were in Spanish, Honors English, Honors Statistics, and Calculus. I have a W in honors history.
I have been class advocate in the honors program at my school for the past two years. I was on the debate team, and I am in AGS, the Honors society.
My essays were really strong, I had them reviewed by a UCLA rep. and he throughout they were great.
Igetc done in spring
major, i just need to finish calc 2, and for UCI, UCSB I need to finish accounting 2
I applied to different majors for different schools
I have tap for UCLA and UCI

UCI business administration
UClA Business Econ
UCB Enviremental economics in the college of natural resources
UCSD, econ, i have not taken a third semester of calculus which it recommends
UCSB econ and accounting
UCSC Econ

So please help me pass time by saying what schools you think my chances are for these schools.

Thanks!

Does UCI have TAP, or do you mean TAG? And do you have a TAG for any other campuses?

I’d say you’re safe everywhere except UCLA and Berkeley, both of which are low- to mid-reaches. TAP and your essays will help at LA, obviously, but BizEcon is one of the most competitive majors.

I normally don’t get into these “chance me” threads but because your request seems reasonable, considering your stats, I’ll do my best to give you an assessment of what I think (I love it when these 3.95 or 4.0 gpa people with a million ECs ask to be chanced :rolleyes: - it’s like what more can anyone else on here say? Another big joke is when people say things like “you’re in”). Anyways getting back to the point, here’s what I think:

UCLA (low chance - as nick_scheu pointed out).
This is because UCLA biz econ is SEVERLY impacted and possibly one of THE most difficult majors to get into! (avg. accepted gpa here was around 3.95 ish). That said, if you have a killer essay and extremely challenging circumstances under which you achieved, you just might get in. However, no one (you, I or any rep) can exactly tell how much impact your essay has on the particular admission officers that review your app. That is exactly why I laugh when people rate their essays 9.5/10 or 8.65/10 :rolleyes: …but in your case you were right in rating your essay “strong” (because that’s all you can estimate - “good” “mediocre” or “bad” - and even then this is a VERY subjective part of the app, and no 2 people might see something exaclty alike).

UCB
Your chances, IMHO, are actually much better here because you were smart enough not to apply to HAAS (it’s like winning the lottery). I’m estimating your chances here at around 60% (maybe more if your essay really appeals to someone)

The rest:
“you’re most likely in” (I know I hate to use that terminology, but there are some cases where you can just say that, and I used the qualifier “most likely”).

@nick_scheu
The honors program I’m in gives me a transfer agreement for UCI, so its not quite tag but a UCI rep has said its as effective as tap. That said I officially have TAP for UCLA.

@victor5555
Thank you kindly

Also, how do schools look at honors classes that dont have transfer agreements, like UCSB, UCSD, etc.?

Honors classes only matter for UCLA… At least, that’s what we normally say here. I’m not aware of this Irvine TAP program. I have heard of Irvine granting admission to its honors program to applicants from CCC honors programs, but not of priority admission consideration. If it is a TAP program, then obviously honors helps.

Why didn’t/couldn’t you TAG into Irvine?

Business Admin is a non TAG major and only 80 slots a year.

Truthfully <5% chance at UCLA/CAL- UCLA’s AVG GPA was 3.9+ last year and CAl’s econ admit last year was pretty close to that
<25% chance at UCI since i remember last year’s business admin gpa were 3.8+

In at SD/SC/SB

That’s right, I forgot how competitive Irvine was for Business Admin.

Fair enough, thanks for the honest estimates.

also its worth pointing out that environmental econ has a 30 percent or so admit rate at cal which beats the regular econ by about 25 percent.

does anyone know whether UCI is going be taking more Business Admit Transfers this year?

@nick_scheu – I’ve heard something along the lines from the Honors Coordinator that while Irvine doesn’t use TAP, they call her up and ask her for her list of TAP students so they kind of note it but they don’t use it per se. So it’s an interesting thing they both do and don’t at the same time I guess?

And yeah, last few months have flown by… why can’t March? I wanna know where I’m in at, this excitement is killing me!!! -whines and flails arms and feet like a little kid-

@econeric
I’m a business admin/econ major as well and I was wondering why you took stats. Was it for an extra honors class or was it a pre-req?

This thread title makes me think that the OP is going to commit bodily harm.

@uschopeful2013 Both, some schools like ucsb required me to take statistics for my major, and i needed the honors credit.
