ugh, just sent in my app, i'm so nervous!

Well, today I sent in my app for transfer admission for the aerospace engineering undergraduate degree program at Iowa State. I'm also gonna submit an application to southern Illinois, just in case, but I'd rather go to ISU.

I'm so nervous! They said that if I have at least a 2.0 cummulative GPA I'll get in, but still that seems too easy. Maybe it's just because I've wanted to go to that school all my life?

If I get accepted, I'll be the very first person in my family ever to go to a university (that includes my extended family), so none of them know what this is like. I did really poor in highschool, around a 1.6 GPA when I barely graduated, and completely failed Algebra 2. I slacked off at the CC in my city, and my GPA there is a whopping 1.9, only after I was given academic forgiveness for one semester of F's. However, at my current CC last semester was a solid 3, and so far this semester I'm at a 3.3. Oh, and don't let my GPA fool you, i'm pretty good at math.

somebody, anybody, please put my mind at ease! haha. Maybe it's just that this seems so daunting, like I've put a university education on such a high pedestal that it seems as if I'm reaching for the moon?

How long does it usually take for applications to be reviewed?

Did I submit my app too late?

Do universities usually honor academic forgiveness when it comes to F's?

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh

no help, eh?

DS7202,
Congrats on being a first-generation college student!
I think the reason you are not getting responses is because your questions are very general, and have very specific answers based on different people.
Does the 2.0 GPA apply for the progam you are applying to for Iowa State or is it Iowa State in general? This can be a big distinction.
I don’t know much about Iowa State so I can’t put you at ease, but you might want to do searches for it on here for freshman admissions just to see what other GPAs are like of the students who go there and the ones who applied.
Applications are reviewed differently at every school. A school website should be able to tell you the turnaround time for applications. A simple phone call will answer this question as well.
In terms of when you submitted your application - does Iowa State have an application deadline? Did you miss it or is it rolling? If it’s rolling than you have plenty of chances, but if you missed the deadline, you should call and ask if you still have a chance.
Universities honor grades as low as Fs if there is an explanation behind it in your application. Otherwise, this is another thing to ask the school about.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!

see, i’m confused about that program specific GPA. I talked to an admissions person at Iowa State, and they told me as long as I had a 2.0 cumulative I was guaranteed admission. However, it just seems too easy for an engineering program.

i think you should have a good shot  actually i think youll get in
see the thing is, its a lot easier for transfers, even top schools like notre dame have like a 3.6 average transfer GPA, and thats a top 20 school!
im guessing youre in-state too so
basically, if you have 2.0 + then you should be fine, i think  especially since youve shown a GREAT trend, going from F’s and C’s to like B+ :)

i sincerely wish you good luck, i hope you can accomplish your goals and make your family proud :D
