Ugh, Problems with Parents

My parents do not want me to attend any schools outside of Ohio, and they have recently pronounced that they do not want me to attend any private schools (cost issues). Basically, it's come down to this: I attend Ohio State. That's the only school I would consider going to in Ohio, but I probably wouldn't be happy there.

So, to keep this from sounding like an angsty rant, has anyone experienced a similar situation? What did you do?

If your stats are good enough, some public universities in other states have scholarship programs which waive out-of-state tuition fees.

See if you can pin your parents down on how much they're willing to pay a year for your college. If you're willing to make up the difference by getting merit aid, working during the summer and school year, and taking out loans, your parents may be perfectly willing for you to go out of state or to a private college. Depending on your income, you also may qualify for need-based aid particularly at private colleges.

I notice that you have been considering going to places like Calif. for college. Keep in mind that transportation costs will add a lot. It might be better to consider going that far away for grad school particularly if you plan to major in a field in which you may get paid for going to grad school.
