ugh....what to do here?

I was accepted at Northeastern, and they told me that I have until June 17th to make a decision. However, I also applied to University of Maryland, but they told me that they would not make a decision until they recieved my 2nd semester grades. They recieved my 2nd semester grades on may 22, at which point, Maryland said it would take 4-6 weeks to reach a decision, but they are trying to get it done faster than that. Well, you can see the dilema here, because June 17th is coming up, and still no decision from Maryland yet. To add further frusturation, Maryland is my top choice. So what should I do here? Should I tell Maryland to "hurry up"? Should I ask for an extension for Northeastern? I am actually visiting Northeastern tomorrow, so it might help to talk to someone from admissions in person?

Try asking for an extension, if that doesn't work, you'll probably have to just send in the northeastern deposit and wait maryland out.

Send deposit to northeastern and wait for Maryland, I don't see the dilemma here, not sending in a deposit to NE would be foolish, if you got rejected from Maryland. You will probably lose the deposit although you can probably have it refunded.

I agree with the above posters, and hope the NE deposit isn't too steep. Try for the extension. Send the deposit if you don't get one. If UMd comes through, you can even ask NE for a refund. They might do it.

Good luck.

ha, yeah, unless NE is a martyr, you're not getting your deposit back, tons of schools have students that are waiting to hear from other schools. the sympathy that would be required to give you a refund, isn't going to be there. This coming from someone that has lost two separate deposits to NYU and
Macalester...
